The all-important sound system
and the sound tech who knows
what to do with it

Give us edgy originals, awesome solos, an inspired bass line . . . but we'll still walk away if it all sounds like mush. If we can't hear the bass line, sharp guitar licks, and steamy or screamy vocals, it just won't cut it. Don't skimp on sound. And check the venue's system ahead of time, if that's what you're using.

Give it up for the talented sound techs! And the venues who have invested in quality systems.

This is the end of your public service announcement. Carry on.

Rovetti and Meatballs at
Hump Day Jump!

Hump Day Jump, the new dance lesson and live music series produced by Sonoma County Dance Beat at Rossi's 1906 in Sonoma is an unqualified success. Come check it out this Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at 7PM, when we feature Rovetti and Meatballs. They'll keep folks dancing with high energy songs ranging from rock to blue grass. Come early for yummy barbecue and get a West Coast Swing lesson at 7 pm with a refresher later, when the band's on break. Then keep on practicing those moves to live music till 10 pm. No partner necessary for these drop-in lessons with Edna and Dick. Cover, which includes the dance lesson, is $10.

Directions from Santa Rosa, points west:

Take Hwy 12 through all those little hamlets on the way to Sonoma and take a right on Verano (Palms Grill will be on your left at that intersection. You will pass a park on your left, go over a bridge and then take the second left (Willow). The first left is a dead end. It's about three blocks down on your right, at the corner of Willow (which becomes Riverside later) and Grove. You can also pass Verano, go to the T at Staples and go right instead of veering left into Sonoma. That's Riverside. It will go through a residential section and you'll drive right through the dancehall's door if you keep going. Easy peasy.

If you're interested in carpooling, let us know and we'll see about matching folks up. If you're coming from the east and have a great way to get there, send it to us and we'll share it next time.

Another iPhone tip - not just for SCDB

Another tip for iPhone users. You know how you have to press the home button twice and then swipe all the previews of your apps up to close them? Hopefully, yes. Well, the thing I keep forgetting is to dump my cache in my safari browser. It keeps a ton of pages open for you to go back to, and if you don't close them now and then, it adversely affects the filter function on your favorite site, (Sonoma County Dance Beat). Open your browser and click on the icon that looks like two pages, one behind another. Now start clicking the Xs on the upper left of those pages to close them. Hit done in the lower right when you're done. This should increase load times and avoid some glitches.
