Sense Cymru

We had a great day in August with the young people from Sense Cymru on the "Being Me" project, even with some torrential rain!  With the giant tipi, cob seating area and barn we still managed to have a group promising to come back for more!  This day also demonstrates the power of collaborating between two Big Lottery funded organisations.

Cynefin Conference at Murton site

We're hosting an all-Wales Cynefin team and Penderry Provider Planning Forum at our Murton site in mid September.  This will showcase to the Wales-wide team the achievements in Swansea and will be another example of how our Murton facilities work as a unique and inspiring conference/training venue.

"Building Community" update

During the summer and in between intakes of groups, we've been busy at Little Bryn Gwyn. We're just about to install the windows and doors on our landmark Big Lottery funded training centre. Once that's happened, we're very much looking forward to meeting our new groups from PTAWA Caring Dads, YMCA Port Talbot, & TBISwho will be helping us clay plaster the internal walls, and build the front deck.

Positive Relationships Caring Dads programme

And here's another example of collaborating and partnering between Big Lottery Wales funded People and Places projects!  The Positive Relationships Caring Dads programmes is partnering up with the Building Community project to pilot how we can tackle domestic violence.  Both projects are pioneering, so it will be interesting to see the impact of both projects coming together in September.

What other people are saying!

Don't just take our word for it, this is the most recent feedback we've had...

"I felt enthused and interested the moment I arrived.  It’s an extraordinary place.  However, what has stuck with me most was the reaction of the children and young people that we were with. They were engaged and clearly having fun.
Christine Richards, Deputy Leader of Swansea Council

"Excellent site, great relaxed nature of staff & feel to the site. All facilities were top notch and inspiring to me and others"
Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens

"A huge big thank you for everything yesterday. A fantastic time had by all"
Sense Cymru

Group case study of the month!

Fe Fi Forum!

We love the FeFi forum!  FeFi is the youth forum for looked after children in Swansea through Social Services.

Led by the inspirational Mr Tom Jones, this forum has been doing a corporate parenting challenge and tipitent residential at our Murton site for 5 years.
The impact of the experience is huge - and not just on the young people - check out the feedback from the deputy leader of the Swansea Council, Cllr Christine Richards.  We're looking forward to future creative and supportive approaches to working with looked after young people in Swansea.

Help Seb from Down to Earth raise £10,000 for Nepal!

April's earthquake in Nepal killed more than 9,000 people, injured more than 23,000, and left hundreds of thousands of people homeless, Our very own Seb Haley wants to do something about it.

Seb developed a passion for Nepal and it's people after taking groups of young people to the Everest region. His goal is to provide funding and training for local communities in 'Earthbag' construction; this will allow people living in remote areas to build their own low-cost, earthquake-resistant homes using readily available natural materials.

In order to fund this ambitious programme, Seb's going to be running 100KM with over 5250m of assent across the Brecon Beacons in 36 hours!

To find out more and to sponsor Seb, please do visit his Facebook group.
