Unlicensed Specials and Imported Medicines

PCA(P)(2015)17 describes amendments to the drug tariff in respect of special preparations and imported unlicensed medicines.

The generic framework for specials authorisation details the process contractors should follow.  There are changes to when authorisation is required, length of authorisation and endorsing practice which we would advise contractors and staff to familiarise themselves with.

A FAQ has been published as well as a key facts document.

If you have any further questions, or require any further advice, please contact our pharmacy services team on 0131 4663540.

Operations and Development Variable element

The current standards for achievement of the O&D variable payment are due to expire on 30/09/2015.  We are in discussions with Scottish Government on criteria for the next quarter.  The most recent change was the increase in the target to High Risk and New medicine interventions from 4% to 5%.

Lilly have requested we share further information on their insulin range as a result of increased errors reaching patients.  The Diabetes Range Chart shows various products and their effect to aid understanding and patient counselling.

National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Pharmacy

Skills for Health is consulting on the revised Pharmacy Services suite of National Occupational Standards. The functions described by the NOS are undertaken by pharmacy technicians and some are also undertaken by pharmacy/dispensing assistants. Additionally, the NOS underpin the qualifications which enable pharmacy technicians to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). CPS has been involved in this work to date and will be involved through to completion.
An online consultation has been launched for further comment and will close at 12pm on Friday 18th September. We would encourage you to respond you don’t have to respond on every NOS, just the ones you consider relevant

Zero Return EHC/Stoma Claim Forms

We have had a request from Practitioner Services to remind contractors there is no need to submit either a PHS or Stoma Claim form if you are not actually claiming any fees.
