The Ride: $1.78M raised for Cancer Research at The Ottawa Hospital
While inclement weather forced The Ottawa Hospital Foundation to cancel THE RIDE – its signature cycling event – it was still a success. More than 680 riders, who signed up for the event, raised an incredible $1.78 million this year. This brings the total raised through this event to more than $10 million. Read more…

Clinical trial improved quality of life for cancer patient
Doris Kelly was admitted to hospital after her breast cancer, originally diagnosed in 2001, spread to her bones and liver. She was told in December 2012 that her chance of survival was less than one percent, and that she had just weeks to live.

Imagine: a patient missing a fragment of his skull is fitted with a replica that slides perfectly into place, rather than a traditional plate and screws that need to be modified in the operating room. Bien que le mauvais temps ait obligé La Fondation de l’Hôpital d’Ottawa à annuler LE DÉFI, son activité phare, le vélotour a quand même été un succès. Les plus de 680 cyclistes qui s’étaient inscrits ont amassé la somme incroyable de 1.78 millions $ cette année. L’activité a donc permis d’amasser plus de 10 millions $. Plus…

Une meilleure qualité de vie grâce à un essai clinique
Doris Kelly a été hospitalisée après que son cancer du sein, diagnostiqué en 2001, s’est propagé à ses os et à son foie. En décembre 2012, on lui a dit que ses chances de survie étaient inférieures à 1 %, et qu’il lui restait seulement quelques semaines à vivre.

Imaginez : un patient ayant le crâne endommagé reçoit une greffe de crâne sur mesure, une réplique exacte du morceau à remplacer, au lieu de la traditionnelle plaque fixée par des vices qui doit être modifiée en salle d’opération. La réplique exacte a deux avantages : la greffe a plus de chances de réussir et le risque d’infection est réduit.
