Introducing: Bicyclists of Rhode Island

"I dropped my daughter off at the beach with her friends, and now I get to bike! Biking allows you to get to any place in any town, quickly. It's the ultimate freedom."  ~ Jef D'Etremonts has a timeshare in Newport

In collaboration with the Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition, we’re starting a series on our blog and on social media called Bicyclists of Rhode Island. It’s inspired by the hugely popular Humans of New York series, and aims to highlight the diverse reasons why people bike and the broad range of people who bike in Lil’ Rhody. We'd love people from all over Newport County to be featured in the first few installments of the series. Fill out the very brief form HERE to sign up!

Take the Newport Open Space Survey

Got 5 minutes for civic engagement? Newport Open Space is beginning a Master Plan process for Newport's trees, parks, and open spaces - including our streets - for the first time since 1913. They've put together an awesome survey - please take it and share your thoughts about these spaces we all enjoy! Your input will help improve Newport’s public outdoor spaces for the next hundred years. Please include your thoughts on bike racks, routes, and general bike-related improvements.

Bike Newport Transportation Cycling Workshop
Saturday, October 17th, 1:00-5:00pm

Are you a recreational rider who's ready to ditch the car for everyday commuting and errands? Do you ride on trails or bike paths on the weekends but need some support in making the transition to riding with traffic? Are you just getting back on a bike for the first time in years? Join us for a four hour comprehensive workshop on biking for transportation.

The afternoon will begin in the classroom, progress to practicing bike maneuvering skills in a car-free parking lot, and culminate in a 3-mile city ride in small, intimate groups led by instructors. You will gain experience riding with traffic in a variety of on-road conditions, applying the safe riding techniques you learned in the classroom and out in the parking lol.

MUST HAVES: a bike, helmet, and basic riding skills. Sign up HERE - space is limited! Bike Newport members receive 15% off all classes.
