The family is God’s masterpiece within creation. It is the bond that allows a society to flourish.

But in far too many cases, generational poverty, abuse and neglect threaten to destroy the health and functionality of the family unit. When a child is repeatedly exposed to stressful events, or their physical and emotional needs are not met, it can leave wounds that are severe and long-lasting. It can lead to anxiety, depression, dissociation, academic problems, difficulty connecting with others, self-harm, poor decision-making, and much more.
 

We witness these results in our children every day. Their families are messy, broken ones. Parents are so very often hurting instead of helping their children.

But with the right intervention, a child can overcome the effects of trauma. Children who have experienced abuse and neglect can go on to heal and thrive. 

We long to build families that carve new paths, write new stories and embrace new behaviors. In order to do so, we needed to create a special space for God to work. To heal. To restore.

So we added a full-time therapist to our team and began immediate therapy with each family. 
 

Children and families heal faster when they work together. Therapy helps both child and parent express their feelings in a safe place. They are learning to experience and express emotion. They are learning to cultivate empathy and respect for one another. They are learning new social and relational skills.

The best part: the message of the Gospel is at the heart of each therapy session. Roots & Wings seeks to meet families in their mess, in their brokenness, and offer them Jesus. To help them find grace and mercy in the person of Christ. Because this whole thing that is Roots & Wings is based 100% on how good Jesus is and what He can do among the most messy and broken among us. 
 

We hope and pray that despite their fears, their doubts, their wrestling, we can reveal to each child, parent and family how much Jesus loves them. How He can and wants to heal them. How He wants to use their lives for His glory. How He longs so badly for them to receive His grace.
