Community Jobs Fund extended

GCVS is delighted that more young people are set to benefit from a further £1.3m employment support, as the Scottish Government announces plans to extend the Community Jobs Scotland (CJS) programme to benefit more young people.  CJS, administered by SCVO, provides third sector jobs for young people to help them gain the type of work experience they need and which employers are looking for.

GCVS, a keen supporter of CJS, currently employs 3 young people who first arrived in our organisation through the job creation scheme and who are now an integral part of the staff here.  More..

Community Connectors is open for referrals

Community Connectors is a new service aimed at improving connections for people over 60 and their carers to local services, facilities and activities, by providing them with tailored and informed support.  Working on a one-to-one basis, and taking a person-centred approach, the CC Team supports older people and their carers to identify and address barriers to living well, and supports them to access services.
The service is now live and taking referrals: if you think you know someone who could benefit please get in touch.
Our CC Buddy Volunteers provide further support: to help people to get to the places and people they need to get to. Contact jane.communityconnectors@gcvs.org.uk if you’d like to be one of our Buddy Volunteers.

Resilient Glasgow workshops for a future-proofed city

GCVS, in partnership with Glasgow City Council, recently hosted three workshops in order to gain input into the city's Resilience Strategy.  Resilient Glasgow is an initiative supported by the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities Network and is an attempt to build an overarching resilience strategy to 'future-proof’ the city against the shocks and chronic stresses we may face as the 21st Century progresses. Throughout the events, we have had lots of interesting and informative conversations with the sector, providing the team taking forward the development of the strategy with a diverse range of insights into what it would take to make the city and its citizens more resilient.  More...
