LAST CHANCE! Conversations In Flux Art Exhibition Closes October 9:
Conversations in Flux created by Charmaine Lurchconsists of three multimedia, multidimensional sculpture and paint installations,  used to animate evidence of a visible black presence in North American Landscapes. The objects, constructed with wire and paint, are bent and shaped into various forms depicting black populations inside and outside of hyper-visible and invisible states of blackness.

“My concern as a visual artist in the area of visibility requires that I examine how black subjects maneuver between the points of hyper-visibility and invisibility, to get from one point to the other, you have to move”, said Lurch.  “Marking visibility and making art requires me to envision the black subject visible in time and space”.

Jack Ford Photography Collection Exhibition from November 3-27:
“I have realized a new passion for photography and the best of all my collection of old war photos, has been brought back to life!” – Jack Ford
Exhibition Presenting Sponsor:
Jack Ford Photography Collection

At 20, Jack Ford saw the world through a different lens, when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), 414 Photo Unit Squadron. During the Second World War, he carried a small accordion style camera with him at all times, his job was to document history in action:  civilians and children on the roadside, aerial views of bombed towns and sometimes still burning German enemy targets.

His most memorable event was soon after D-Day, when Winston Churchill unexpectedly showed up with British Field Marshall, Bernard Montgomery and King George VI for a surprise visit near Caen, France. Jack, a kid at the time, was shaking with fear, hardly able to hold the camera steady.

Toronto Arts Council Cultural Leaders Lab - Deadline on October 15:

The deadline for TAC’s Cultural Leaders Lab program is approaching on October 15th.  Now entering its second year, the program is an exciting partnership between TAC and The Banff Centre that has led to the creation of a unique leadership exchange program specifically tailored to Toronto’s arts and cultural leaders.

The Cultural Leaders Lab will build a network of diverse, innovative leaders from across the City, from organizations of all sizes.  The program will kick off in April 2016 with an intensive one-week retreat at The Banff Centre, followed by bi-monthly events in Toronto over a one-year period.

The program will create the space for a deep examination of Toronto’s arts ecology, and the refinement of the skill sets needed to support personal leadership strength, which will in turn contribute to a vibrant future for the arts. The key goals of the program are to:

  • Invigorate and inspire exceptional arts and cultural leaders, and propel their thinking and activities to the next level;
  • Provide an opportunity for professional development, learning and networking with peers across disciplines;

  • Develop new approaches and collaborative solutions to professional and personal challenges;

  • Examine the role of leadership in building the creative city.
