"Food for Health" - Now Open

A poster advertising Food exhibition

Our current exhibition in the OPG Gallery is “Food for Thought”, an exhibition that looks at the importance of food, where it comes from and what we are putting into our bodies. This exhibition opened on September 19th (closes on January 3rd) and has inspired us to look at other ways we can help create a healthy community.

Serving up something for the mind and body at the Museums this Fall

The Niagara Falls Farmer’s Market is on every Saturday morning right behind the Niagara Falls History Museum. This Fall we are showing the award winning documentary “Just Eat It!: A Food Waste Story” on Saturday mornings during Market hours.  We also have gluten free cooking expert, Laurie Sadowski coming (October 3rd) to talk about "Baking Without Borders” to get you prepped for Thanksgiving. Also, check out our Feasting on Film film series curated by Dr. Joan Nicks, this series will look at films that deal with the topic of food – both documentaries and dramatic offerings being served up.

The Niagara Regional Health department will be doing demonstrations and information sessions (October 3rd) and we have community yoga coming back on Thursdays starting this month. Lots of ways to improve your mind and body at the Museum and at the Farmer’s Market. Check out website or call the museum for specific dates and times.

Also on Thursday nights, when you visit the Museum, you might run across one of our new crew of volunteers. These individuals have worked with us on coming up with a new perspective on looking at our history. There will be new people out each week, so make it a habit of stopping by.

Educational Programs

The Museum has released the 2015/16 educational program offerings for teachers. There are a few new programs that fit the Ontario Curriculum as well as Museum and Battlefield tours.

We are also excited to be working with Niagara Falls Transit on offering free bus transportation to elementary school children.
