Impediments - Part 2

Continued from our previous newsletter:

(3) Doubt (Samsaya) - A knowledge that brings about conflicting and diverse ideas in the mind is called doubt. In this state many parallel streams of thought pervade the mind regarding the true nature of something about the reality of yoga’s existence, about the validity of statements given by one’s spiritual guide (Guru) and the scriptures regarding the greatness on yoga, about the fruits of yoga, about the reality and authenticity of the inalienable trance achieved at the height of yogic union with the supreme being etc.. such thoughts which give rise to a dualistic mental state are called Samsaya (doubt). It doesn’t allow the practitioner of yoga to go forward in his yoga practice without disturbance. The only way of staying free of doubt is to treat the words of one’s spiritual guide as gospel truth and have unyielding faith in the scriptures.

(4) Negligence (Pramada) - ‘Negligence’ in yoga terminology means ‘not putting in the desired effort into the practice of the trance state and letting the mind wander into other thoughts. It is only  by actively destroying Pramada and applying one’s mind into the quest for the bliss of trance can one get rid of it.

(5) Sloth (Alasya) - It is the Kapha (phlegm) in the body that determines the extent of Tamas (morbidity or primordiality) in one’s psyche. If Kapha increases so do Tamasik qualities (inchoate strivings of the mind, the dark, brooding side of the mind) and, hence, the mind feels heavy, This is what is called ‘alasya’ (sloth) in Yoga. A balanced diet and regular daily routine are needed to control sloth.

In the following newsletters the additional four impediments will be addressed.

With good wishes to you all,
Dr. Jayant. K. Bhadury and Acharya Hemant. K. Bhadury
Bhadra Ashtami - The birth of Krishna

According to the Hindu tradition, we celebrate Lord Krishna’s birthday on the 8th day of the Hindi month Bhadra (September 5th 2015). Such celebration took place at the Bhadury family residency. At midnight, people celebrated with a special ceremony of the Lord, offering food and other pleasant presents to Him. Lord Krishna is the 8th incarnation of Lord Vishnu and followers of “Shakti” (goddess) also consider Lord Krishna to be the incarnation of goddess Maa Kali.
Lord Krishna was born to free all devotees and disciples from the demon Kansa and it is also mentioned that Lord Krishna was born for Love, to spread teachings of love, peace and doing one’s Karma (action) with determination and without expectations.
In the historical treatise of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the battle of the Maabharata shows Lord Krishna’s devotion to His disciples with a message to follow the truth. In the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, this great war of the Dwapara Yuga shows Lord Krishna’s divinity, power and truthfulness on behalf of His devotees and disciples. Many stories show that He is always fighting for needy or helpless people with kindness and love to all.

On that holy day more than 40,000 ancient manuscripts books on various subjects, including Tantra, Yoga, Astrology, Ayurved, Alchemy and Philosophy, were officially transferred from the Bhadury family to the Bhrigu Yoga Brahma Chinta Pranali Trust, India.

Kurukshetra

Dr. Bhadury journeyed with disciples to the city of Kurukshetra in Haryana, India. The group visited several temples and holy places, among them the Maa Bhadra Kali temple, Brahma Sarovar, and Jyoti sar tirth. They had a wonderful accommodation at Jai Ram Vidyapith, Kurukshetra.
