COLORS OF COMPASSION
Teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh
-Northampton Premier-
Colors of Compassion is a documentary film about the Buddhist practice of mindfulness.
The film features moments from Dharma talks by Zen Buddhist Master Thich Nhat Hanh and insights from practitioners during the historic first retreat for People of Color led by Thich Nhat Hanh at Deer Park Monastery in California.
Personal stories about identity, lineage, suffering, and social justice, emerge against the backdrop of a growing understanding of the Four Noble Truths. The film culminates in rare and beautiful ceremonial footage of the Five Mindfulness Trainings.
Produced by Eloise De Leon and Associate Producers, Ralph Chaney and Michael De Leon.
A film Q & A with Eloise De Leon will follow the screening. De Leon lives in Brooklyn, NY where she works as a Transformational Life Coach, Reiki Master,
and video maker.
Her current video project chronicles her apprenticeship with Madre Sarita, a gifted curandera (spiritual healer) of Toltec heritage.
For information about De Leon's coaching practice, see:

MASTER DOGEN SPEAKS
Excerpt from
Body-and-Mind Study of the Way
(Shinjin Gakudo)
"For the time being let us say
there are two approaches to
studying the buddha way:
to study with mind and to
study with body.
...To study the way with the body means to study the way with your own body. It is the study of the way using this lump of red flesh. The body comes forth from the study of the way. Everything which comes forth from the study of the way is the true human body.
To turn this body around, abandoning the ten unwholesome actions, keeping the eight precepts, taking refuge in the three treasures, and leaving home and entering the homeless life, is the true study of the way.
For this reason it is called the true human body. Those who follow this must not be like outsiders who hold the view of spontaneous enlightenment."

The Practice of Generosity
The gift of Dharma excels all gifts.
In this spirit, a fundamental practice of Two Streams Zen is the practice of Generosity, Dana Paramita, the first of the Six Perfections.
Thus, the teachings are given freely and practice opportunities are offered on Dana basis.
In turn, Two Streams Zen relies on your generosity to continue to provide the Gift of Dharma.

Dear Friends,
This past summer Two Streams Zen was blessed with the opportunity to offer to the community a rich variety of practice events, including long-life ceremonies in honor of
His Holiness, the XIV Dalai Lama and
Venerable Pema Chodron's birthdays.
Below a poem by Shokai Senghas from summer sesshin.
A Recipe For Happiness
Take one 2x
Go out into the woods and chop dead trees for about an hour until the sweat is streaming down your body and you don't care who or what is biting you.
Come back to the temple and wash your face and arms with cold water.
Take a small round of toast, and load it up with almond butter and Nutella.
Eat!
Then sit zazen.
It's really good!

Now, witnessing the turning of the seasons, the bounty of apples, squashes, and pumpkins, cool nights, and rainy days, yellow leaves swaying in the breeze coming to rest on the earth.
Here at AnRyu the wood stove's first fire warms the great room as the Temple Guardians rest in preparation for another season of practice.
At ShinJin we prepare to host filmmaker Eloise De Leon and her film Colors of Compassion (see side box). Mark your calendars. You and all your friends and family are all invited to this evening of cinematic Dharma for good conversation and Outlook Farm's sense-a-tional apple cider!
Join us again this autumn as we continue to deepen our practice with weekly zazen, dharma studies, all day sittings, and in December, the observance of Siddhartha Gautama's Enlightenment with an all night vigil.
Please enjoy these memories of not so long ago.
