CONAPAC's Adopt-A-Drop Program In Action
Obtaining support for maintaining our clean water projects in rural river communities is our goal. CONAPAC has been building community clean water systems since 2008. When we build a clean water system in a community we include operator training, water testing, and monitoring of systems on a regular basis. These maintenance efforts require separate and regular funding. In order to protect and enhance our donors’ investments and ensure quality water systems in our communities, we are offering community partnerships.

We are seeking groups and individuals willing to adopt a community water system for $350 a year. CONAPAC currently oversees 26 community water treatment plants, with one more under construction at Timicuro I. We have just completed a community water treatment plant at Primero de Enero. Thanks to our sponsor for this community, we were able to hold operator training and a water workshop and will be begin ongoing monitoring of the system.

By having a funding stream for monitoring large community water treatment plants as well as the smaller systems, CONAPAC can employ a full-time person whose sole job is to visit communities, test water quality, provide on-site operator training, handle small repairs, and mentor community leaders about proper money management and collection techniques. We will provide an individualized yearly report to each sponsor for ongoing review of their community’s performance and CONAPAC’s commitment to safe drinking water in the Peruvian Amazon basin.
