Fleck's first rule of the Internet is "never read the comments on a newspaper story", but the feedback the leadership team at the Southern Nevada Water Authority is getting right now must be fascinating if they break it. The two big western water stories of the week were out of Las Vegas, both demonstrating the enormous success of Vegas's conservation efforts. First, Las Vegas has enough spare water sloshing around to sell/loan/lease 150,000 acre feet of it to help their drought plagued neighbors in Southern California. Second, the analysis done for the Water Authority's new long range resource plan suggests Vegas conservation has bought enough breathing space to add a million more people within current supplies. I realize that web site commenters aren't a representative sample, but yowza the threads on those two Henry Brean stories! In summary, John Entsminger and colleagues, so you don't have to read 'em: "Why'd you make us save all that water just so you could sell it to L.A. and make room for more people!"
Water conservation messaging is hard.
