WPHNA Newsletter
September 2015

Our newsletter is back!

After a one-year hiatus, our newsletter is back with updates on public health nutrition and the work of the Association.

What lies ahead for WPHNA?

On April 1st, 2015, Dr. Fabio da Silva Gomes took office as the new Association President. "These are exciting times for nutrition", says Fabio, "and exciting times for our Association as well. We have much work to do. With the support of our members, we will make a bigger and stronger Association, helping advocate for public health nutrition and develop our profession worldwide".

Dr Gomes has highlighted the following issues as his key priorities for WPHNA in the next 4 years:
  • Secure funding from non-conflicted sources.
  • Increase membership, including senior and young scientists, researchers, policy-makers and decision-takers.
  • Much stronger engagement with and involvement of WPHNA members.
  • The World Nutrition Cape Town 2016 conference to be as great a success as Rio2012.
  • Create and strengthen alliances with like-minded organizations.
  • Qualify and increase WPHNA representation at relevant multilateral meetings.
"I feel very grateful and honored that the members have entrusted me the mission to continue the mandate of my colleague Professor Barrie Margetts, who led the Association since its foundation to achieve great recognition, distinction and respect worldwide", Dr Gomes said. The Association is now ready to move forward and build on the efforts of colleagues that were previously involved with establishing it as an important voice for public health nutrition in the world. We count on your engagement and feedback!
