RECIPES

Some of you have been asking to share the recipes that we had during our open house last year and the goodies & tea I brought in on Labour Day Monday. The recipes are from my good friend France Paolozzi who is a certified nutritionist.  Please take a moment to check out her website at www.lifestylereboot.ca for more amazing recipes!

Yogi Chai Tea

For each cup:
  • 10 ounces of water (about 1 1/3 cups)
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 4 whole green cardamom pods, cracked
  • 4 whole black peppercorns
  • ½ stick cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon black tea
  • ½ cup milk (your choice of type)
  • 2 slices fresh ginger root

Bring water to a boil and add spices. Cover and boil 15 to 20 minutes, then add black tea. Let sit for a few minutes, then add the milk and return to a boil. When it reaches a boil, remove immediately from heat, strain, and sweeten with honey. The spices used are said to have the following properties.

  • Black pepper: blood purifier
  • Cardamom pods: digestive aid
  • Cloves: beneficial to the nervous system
  • Cinnamon: strengthens the bones
  • Ginger root: healing for colds and flu, increases energy
  • Milk: helps in the easy assimilation of spices.
  • Black tea: acts as an alloy for all the ingredients, creating just the right balance.

Cookie Dough Balls:

Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add the coconut oil and stir. Then add the maple syrup or honey, vanilla and chocolate chips. Stir to combine, roll into balls.
•2 cups almond flour
•¼ cup tapioca flour
•¼ tsp salt
•2-3 TBSP pure maple syrup or honey
•1 tsp vanilla
•½ cup coconut oil, melted
•¼ cup soy-free, dairy-free chocolate chips

Sunflower & Chocolate Squares (nut, gluten, egg & soy free):

I cup sunflower butter
½ cup raw unpasteurized honey
½ cup coconut oil
2 cups large flake wheat free oats
1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
½ cup of goji berries or other dried fruit
½ cup each of chia seeds and hemp seeds
1 ¼ cup dark chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla

Prepare a 9X13-baking dish by placing a large piece of parchment paper in the dish.
Melt the sunflower, honey and coconut oil over medium-low heat in a saucepan on the stove
Remove from heat once its’ melted and ad remaining ingredients. Stir to incorporate
Pour into the prepared pan and cool for 2 hours in the fridge. Cut into bars and enjoy. Keep refrigerated or in the freezer.
