Virginia Burt in the Top 50 of 50

Virginia Burt has been nominated as a University of Guelph’s 50^th Anniversary Notable Graduate. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the inception of the School of Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph.  To celebrate this legacy, University staff asked randomly-selected representatives from each graduating year in both the MLA and BLA programs to identify notable individuals from these two programs.  Virginia was honored to be chosen as one of the fifty most notable graduates.

Travel Inspiration

As designers we find inspiration from the landscapes and nature surrounding us.  Virginia Burt recently traveled to Mexico City for the Annual Congress of the CSLA and to Vancouver to meet with landscape architect Cornelia Hahn Oberlander in preparation for their joint talk at the ASLA National Conference.  While traveling, Virginia had the opportunity to visit some remarkable landscapes with Ms. Oberlander through the Cultural Landscape Foundation’s Dialogues Tour, including Eppich House II, by Arthur Erickson and Cornelia Oberlander, and the Montiverdi Estates by Arthur Erickson’s office.  While in Mexico City, Virginia toured the National Museum of Anthropology, Museo Nacional de Antropologia, within Chapultepec Park.  Designed by architect Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, the central courtyard is shaded by a dramatic "el paraguas", Spanish for "the umbrella" and features a cascade down the central carved pillar.  Inspiring indeed!
