POP ACTIVITY AND POP THURSDAY NEWS
In this month on your behalf POP has achieved:
  • A vibrant and engaging conference with 78 organisations and follow up actions promised from a range of partners. See a short clip about the day here.
  • We have attended the People, Communities and Institutions flagship group which reports to the Growth Board. We presented the key headlines to the group from the Big VCS conference. The results from the State of the Sector will feed directly into this group
  • Attending a City Centre consultation on behalf of VCS which is to decide the future the of the city centre and how it is to be developed and used in the coming years.
  • Attended the launch of the Churches together in Plymouth audit which showed the huge social and economic impact churches are having in Plymouth. 80 organisations reported 120,039 beneficiaries gaining from 646,702 volunteer hours and 328,352 hours of paid staff time equating to £8,156,322 of financial value
We are currently working on:
  • Ensuring that we are a Dementia Friendly organisation by submitting our 3 clear pledges to the Dementia Action Alliance, starting with training for all our staff.
  • Looking at the main themes that came from our conference and exploring those, including the desire for a VCS Hub in the city: this would be a place where several VCS groups could be based and offer support from.
  • We are working on collecting feedback from the Sector to feedback to Plymouth County Council to enable them to assess the effectiveness of POP's work. This feedback is vital to the future of POP, Please take 5 minutes to complete that survey for us.
Don't forget our next POP Thursday on October 15th.

We met with Sarah Gooding who is tasked to review progress so far on the Fairness Commission recommendations. PLYMOUTH PLAN
We are currently trialing an interactive version of the Plymouth Plan Part One. Please visit the website and send us any comments you have. Consultation on Plymouth Plan Part Two has now begun and will end 8 January 2016.  It’s all about the land in the city. Plymouth Plan Part Two will direct the use of land in the city for the next 20 years. It will state:
  • Which land we will develop
  • Which green space we will protect
  • Where infrastructure is needed to keep the city running smoothly
We need to make these decisions together, so we need you to join and help work out what is important to you and your community.

We understand that all the information can be overwhelming! Because of this once again Plymouth Plan Team have come together with Plymouth Octopus Project (POP) to deliver workshops on how to use the Toolkits and how to have the best conversations that will influence the plan. The Plymouth Plan team will also be in the Pannier Market every Friday morning to answer any questions and help you to make your comments.

Sign up for workshops by contacting: pop@zebra.coop

SECTOR SUCCESS STORY
PEA is a youth lead volunteering project supported by the Heritage Lottery (Young Roots category) which aims to involve and inspire young people aged 16 to 25 years to conserve the natural environment within their local community whilst having fun and leading practical projects. They've recently worked on fantastic sites in the City such as the new Derriford Community Park and been able to open up their activities to families and all age groups as well as being part of the scheme to spread large areas of Wild Flowers throughout the City Centre and collect the seeds for resewing.

The weekend group is led by a dedicated team of young people and carries out a variety of conservation and heritage-based projects including dry-stone walling, meadow management, wildlife pond creation, hedge-laying, coppicing, biological surveying, beach cleans, to name a few!

For more information on their work go to pea-voluntering.co.uk, or find them on Facebook and Twitter

State of the Sector report is now open and you need to contribute to make sure that  a complete and honest picture of the VCS in Plymouth is compiled by the end of this year. It is essential that the survey connects with as many voluntary and community organisations in the city as possible.  The data gathered will enable the choices, changes and plans that you will need in your organisation over the coming years.
