6 Schools Are Sparking!

It has been an incredible start to the Fall. Just to remind you, we moved to LA three years ago to start ministry to Greeks on the 17 campuses in the Greater Los Angeles area. We believe after three years of learning the culture, trying many things, and seeing UCLA move forward, we finally are on the verge of breakthrough at the various schools throughout the area.

We desperately need your prayers right now. God is stirring up so many partnerships and we want these students to hear his voice and follow. It takes incredible courage to be a Greek leader who says, "I will start ministry on my campus to the brothers and sisters around me." You better believe there is incredible spiritual opposition to this work. But Jesus is greater and so are our prayers!

“This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how."

Mark 4:26-27

So much seed is being scattered and we are resting and trusting in God who is the grower. Our job is to spread the Word of God and share Kingdom vision with these students. His job is to grow these ministries. He knows which of these campuses will take root and spring forward!

We are living inside the tension of what I call "urgent patience". Urgent to share the good news and meet with as many interested people as possible. But patient for the Lord's timing, leading, and growth.

We want to see a network of students on the various campuses leading evangelistic ministry inside the Greek Systems. Our prayer is God will grow these ministries and teams up.

Below is an update on each of the schools we have ministry sparking on right now. UCLA  is not even included in this list. They start in a couple weeks so I will update you on them next time.
We have a FaceBook Prayer Group where we update a few times a week in real time what is happening. I encourage you to sign up and be more regularly informed with how to pray. We really need so much prayer right now!
Tomorrow (Tuesday) night we have our second core group meeting at USC. The picture is 4 of the 7 students who showed up last week. I am really excited about this group. Pray they come back and bring a friend. Tonight, the core group is meeting at 4:30 to do deliveries together: walking from Greek house to house sharing at the Monday night dinners about Greek IV. Pray we are clear and people are drawn in!
We have finally seen a breakthrough at Loyola Marymount! After three years, a group of student leaders have become an independent club on campus and therefore can bring in their own speakers, trainers, and coaches. Before, if ministry was to be done, the University had to run it fully and they allowed now outside partners. This is a picture of Kristina and the LMU leader and she has asked Kristina to coach and mentor her. They will have a Greek Interest night soon! Words can't explain how happy we are and how incredible this breakthrough is. PRAY!!!!!
This is Dennis (left) and a fraternity brother. The PIKE chapter at Cal State Fullerton already has a Bible study on campus, but they have asked Greek IV to partner with them and coach them. Also, Nick Kwok, my associate, has met Gamma Phi's on campus and there is a strong interest to start a Greek InterVarsity ministry across the whole system. Pray for them as they host an interest night next week!
This is a picture of Greek students at Chapman praying with the newly appointed Intervarsity staff, Daniel Allen. Chapman is a brand new ministry for InterVarsity and from the start we are reaching Greeks. Nick and Daniel are working together to build a core team of Greek Christians that will create space for Greek Life and Faith Life to come together on campus. They have an interest night this Wednesday! Kristina will go and speak at that as well.
This is a picture of outreach at Cal State Northridge during the club fair the first week of school. Nick is helping the InterVarsity chapter there make space for Greeks and they have an interest night this week on Thursday night.
A recent graduate of Pepperdine introduced me (Beau) to an ATO at Pepperdine who is excited to hear about Greek InterVarsity and what that could like on his campus. We are having lunch next Monday on campus to talk about the vision.
This is a group of young professionals in LA that were reading my book "Beyond Awkward" together. The book continues to encourage people in sharing their faith and it is actually opening some doors for me with Greek Alumni in the LA area.

At the same time we are growing our student network on the various campuses, I am also working to grow a strong Greek Alumni team that will partner with us in ministering to students. Alumni that will come speak on campus, mentor students, give financially, and pray for the Greek IV movement.
Each of these 6 campuses and the various student connections are seeds just sprouting. While God desires all of these to grow into ministries that make and multiple disciples of Jesus, the enemy is working hard to kill the seed.

Please pray with us for God's nourishment and protection.

3 â€œListen! A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.” - Mark 4:3-8

If you have any words of encouragement, images as you pray, or scriptures that come to mind, please email back and let us know!

Our Territory

We are praying and working to see Greek InterVarsity ministry start on the 17 campuses in Greater Los Angeles that have Greek Systems.

Before moving to Los Angeles in June of 2012, there was no ministry through InterVarsity to Greeks in this area.

We see it as a privilege to partner with God to start this ministry and put a strong foundation on the mission to reach Greeks with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Invest With Us

We always are looking for partners to come onto our ministry team to keep us on the ground in students lives.

Your gifts make it possible for us to speak, train, write, disciple and evangelize this emerging generation.

As you pray about where to invest finacially into the Kingdom of God, please remember us!

We are looking for $90,000 in new gifts this year.
