A Smart and Efficient Bioeconomy for Europe
Over the last few months there has been increasingly intense debate brewing in the Brussels bubble on the topic of the “cascading use” of biomass. The source of much discussion is that, although the term itself is now familiar, finding its way into a growing number of policy proposals, including the European Parliament’s recent opinion on the circular economy, “cascading” can, and often does, mean very different things to different people. Spanish Farmers Back GM Technology
On September 11, about 150 farmers from the South of Spain gathered to debate the role of innovation and the benefits of biotech for the farming sector. The conference, organized by ASAJA-Cádiz, revealed how new technologies can improve farm management. Beat Späth and Pedro Narro, both EuropaBio representatives, highlighted that Bt maize in the country is a success story which helps farmers be competitive on the global market. Francisco Moreno, President of Innovacádiz, also defended innovation in agriculture.
