Mass PowerForward:
Please join us and attend a Public Hearing on Tuesday, September 29th!

MA Power Forward launched an 100+ organization campaign this month to ensure that our state leaders make the right decisions for our economy, our climate and our future. On September 29, a key energy hearing is coming up in Boston, and we need to show state legislators just how powerful our communities are.

» Visit Mass Power Forward for more info!

It's hard to explain how significant this fall is for the climate. Our state may seem like a small piece of the puzzle, but people are watching what we do: as the Pope visits the United States, clashing with climate deniers, and the federal governments struggles to advance the Clean Power Plan, Massachusetts is considering billion-dollar investments in clean energy––and also in fossil fuels.

The choices we make set the high bar for New England, our nation and the world. We have to take the right path forward, and the fork in the road is coming our way swiftly.

» PLEASE JOIN US IN BOSTON for these crucial energy policy hearings!
*This event is not yet on the legislature's online schedule. Sen. Downing's office confirmed that it is on and they expect it to show up on the schedule this week.

All the best, Your Mass Power Forward Planning Team

P.S. If you can't make it, but have questions, please feel free to reach out to Joel Wool at jwool@cleanwater.org

Background on the Bills being heard on Sept. 29:

• S. 1757-Sen. Downing
An Act relative to clean energy resources

• H. 2881-Rep. Haddad
An Act to promote energy diversity
— Support offshore wind provisions in H2881
— Oppose pipeline subsidies - "pipeline tariff" -  in the same legislation

THIS bill includes THIS section:
SECTION 13. The department of public utilities shall establish a tariff to be paid and for the purpose of the construction of additional gas pipeline capacity.

These two bills, along with the Governor's bill S. 1965, are expected to move at a breakneck speed this fall into a large omnibus bill. Word on the street is trying to be finalized before Christmas.... these are likely to be some of the biggest policy decisions on gas/coal/hydro/off-shore wind, that have been made in a long time and will have major ripple effects.

• S. 1965-Gov. Baker
An Act relative to energy sector compliance with the Global Warming Solutions Act
— Support good hydro policy

• H. 3724- Gov. Baker
An Act relative to a long-term, sustainable solar industry
— Oppose this solar bill
"
...directly endangers the viability of solar for renters, low-income communities, municipalities, and even MassDOT's solar projects. It is based on false assumptions that ignore or seriously discount the value of solar to the power grid..."
