PACC Animal Control Officers, S. Bendele, J. Aponte, F. Boone and N. Mckinney attended training at Crater Criminal Justice Academy put on by Human Society of the United States on September 15. Joined by officers from other jurisdictions, our officers learned new information concerning puppy mills, dog and cock fighting and legal updates as they apply to Animal Control.

The Petersburg Museums Join Smithsonian Magazine’s
11th Annual Museum Day Live!

Petersburg Museums will open their doors free of charge on Saturday, September 26, 2015, as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s 11th Annual Museum Day Live! A nationwide event, Museum Day Live! offers free admission to visitors presenting a Museum Day Live! ticket at a participating museum or cultural institution. Petersburg Museums will also extend the offer to all walk-ins.
 
Inclusive by design, the event represents Smithsonian’s commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone, giving museums across all 50 states the opportunity to emulate the admission policy of the Smithsonian museums in Washington D.C. Last year’s event drew over 400,000 participants nationwide, and this year’s event expects record-high participation.  
 
Museums hours of operation will be regular Saturday hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Visitor’s Center will open at 9 a.m. Music events will begin at Centre Hill Museum at 3 p.m. The “Blandford Cemetery Treasure Hunt” will be offered at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Other activities include, spinning yarn on a wheel, knitting and quilting in Centre Hill Circle will begin at 2:30 p.m. with a historic arts crafts person. Children’s games and historic costumes “dress up” will continue through the day. Scavenger hunts and other education activities will take place throughout the day. Tours will take place throughout the day with the final tours starting at 4 p.m.
"Decking the Halls" Holiday Decorations

The holidays are near and Petersburg needs "Decking the Halls" Holiday decorations. The City is in need of artificial Christmas trees, non-breakable ornaments and pinecones for holiday Decorations. 

You can donate these items to 19 Bollingbrook Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 Monday through Saturday 10- 5 PM and Sunday 2-4 PM.

PACC Animal of the Week
A five year old terrier mix that is as sweet as they come. Boomer came to us as a stray with a sweet shyness that he is beginning to overcome. He loves to cuddle and be close to you. He is a 20 pound bundle of love. Come meet him today!

Petersburg Farmer's Market
On Saturday, September 19, there will be spaghetti, acorn squash, watermelons, cantaloupes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, turnips, kale, pumpkins and other produce. There will be baked goods, meats, eggs, canned goods, potted plants (chrysanthemums) and cut flowers. Jarratt's Produce will be available for SNAP purchases. The Market will be open 7 a.m. to Noon (every Saturday). Its located under the Martin Luther King Bridge. For additional information, please call (804) 733-2352. **Winter market hours will start on Saturday, November 7. Hours will be 9 a.m. to noon.**
