National Stepfamily Day is September 16!

**************************************

Beginning tomorrow--a way to rally our stepfamilies! Celebrate
National Stepfamily Day (NSFD) September 16 through this coming weekend.
This is a time to take a break from life chaos and enjoy what's good in your stepfamily. Create any experience -- from very simple to very planned.
My stepdaughter got married four years ago on NSFD weekend,
and we whooped it up during this true milestone occasion.

Some ideas:

  • Express appreciation for your stepfamily members through conversation, notes, or greeting cards
  • Plan a family picnic outdoors during what is hopefully great weather in your area
  • Plant flower bulbs together to symbolize new life and growth
  • Gather with other stepfamilies you know and have a party

Never heard of National Stepfamily Day? You can find the National Stepfamily Day proclamations at the NSF Day and Week website, http://www.nationalstepfamilydayandweek.com/proclamations.html
I've listed my favorite phrases from the NSFD proclamations:

  •  ... National Stepfamily Day and Week is enhanced by our strong commitment to support the stepfamilies of our nation...
  • ...our nation has been blessed by thousands upon thousands of loving stepparents and stepchildren who are daily reminders of the joy, trials, and triumphs of the stepfamily experience and of the boundless love contained in the bond between all types of parents and children.
  • ...a day to celebrate the many invaluable contributions stepfamilies have made to enriching the lives and life experience of the children and parents of America and to strengthening the fabric of American families and society.
