A New President

At our AGM and subsequent opening of The Summer Exhibition we said a fond farewell to Peter Moss and gave a warm welcome to our new president Ian Walter.
Peter has been a stalwart of the Society for many years and will be sadly missed.

Below is the transcript of Ian's Opening Remarks as our new President:
"I was very honoured, if not a little surprised, to be invited to be the President of the Society in succession to Peter Moss. For I am not a Lincolnshire artist but rather a Lincolnshire man who is an enthusiastic supporter of Lincolnshire artists in all their different disciplines: craftsmanship of high quality also enthrals me.
So, when it comes to the Annual Exhibition of the Lincolnshire Artists’ Society, I wait in excited anticipation of what members are going to show.  For me, the exhibition is the heartbeat of the society and is testament to the ability of those who are admitted to the society and can hold themselves out to be members of the Lincolnshire Artists’ Society.  To pass muster, prospective new members’ work is judged by the society if it is to be selected for the Annual Exhibition.  Inevitably this leads to disappointment.  All I can do is encourage those who are disappointed to keep going, to seek the critical advice of successful artists.  Producing works of art is not a competition with others it is a challenge within, which can bring enormous fulfilment.  If it was that easy, everybody would be doing it.  Talent, as well as hard work is needed but it can bring great joy to those who appreciate art, people like me.  So my thanks to the members of the Lincolnshire Artists’ Society – you continue to make me very happy!"
Ian Walter

2016 - our 110th year

The opening of this exhibition, held at The Usher Gallery will be on 6th. May
A second exhibition later in the year will be held at The Scorer Gallery.
We hope to celebrate in lots of ways but most importantly with our new book about the last ten years of the Society by Edward Mayor.
Edward is writing a chapter on artists’ thoughts and would like members to contribute - it doesn’t matter if the thoughts are good or bad, it all makes for a true record of our society and good reading! If you haven’t yet contacted him please just give him a ring on: 01526 358734.
