Film highlights the difficulties of getting children outside while competing with the pulls of technology. Stay after the film screening for a panel discussion of experts on environmental education, and the therapeutic benefits of time spent in nature. There will be a short presentation and discussion led by Dr. Jeff Rose, Asst Prof, Dept of Parks, Recreation, & Tourism at the University of Utah. The Ogden Nature Center presents Creatures of the Night - a not-so-scary Halloween event for the whole family. Learn about native nocturnal creatures like owls, spiders, and bats. Take a crepuscular creep around the nature preserve where you'll meet and learn from some "wild" characters. Find your way through the Spider Web Crawl and visit the Hilarious House of Hoots. Food vendors, carnival games, treats, music, and educational fun.

Kevin DeLuca will share his research on the political and cultural role of images such as those taken by Ansel Adams and Carleton Watkins, which were critical in saving Yosemite and Yellowstone. His talk will cover environmental photography from the nineteenth century to present. See Flyer

She has directed billions of dollars in funding and resources to communities most vulnerable to climate change. In 2012, she helped pass legislation which directs a quarter of CA’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to disadvantaged communities. This November, Salt Lake citizens will vote on the General Operations bond which will allow the Salt Lake City government to update and repurpose open lands such as parks, golf courses, and trails, in a way the city finds best. “The city golf program is at a point where it is no longer fiscally viable. Unfortunately, getting back to a solid, viable financial base at this point is just flatly going to require some course closures,†as stated by Art Raymond, a spokesman for mayor Ralph Becker. In its place, the mayor has created a “Connecting You to Nature†proposal which will offer new ways to use the allocated space. The opportunities include new paved and unpaved trails for bicyclists and walkers/hikers, new recreational opportunities, and an urban farm/orchard (or in other words, an urban forest). Read More...
