Hello,

Every two weeks we try to deliver valuable content that you will find both interesting and useful.  I know that many of you have or work with children, while others do not. With that in mind, we will do our best to vary our topics so that we can touch as many of you as possible.

This week is specially geared toward athletes, parents of athletes, coaches and teachers. We will delve into what makes an effective team, how competitive sports can improve the health of its participants and what Rice Psychology Group can do to help parents and their kids manage their time to make everything work.

You will also hear my response to one of the latest controversial news stories, and will learn about how you can get even more useful information from
my fellow psychologists and myself. We hope you find this newsletter interesting and informative, and ask that you provide feedback through our social media channels.

Warmly,

The Magic of Teams - A Place for Everyone

'Tis the season for trying out and participating in new or familiar sports and activities. I am a horseback rider and while it is my therapy, my love and my sport – it is also my arena for competition. Riding is an individual sport that allows for competition from the most basic beginner levels (for adults and children) through national, international and Olympic levels.  Interestingly though, when I compete, I am also...

Rice Psychology in the News

Dr. Rice Responds to Football Player James Harrison Giving His Kids' Participation Trophies Back.

Last month, one of the biggest stories in sports centered around Steelers linebacker James Harrison, and not for his actions on the field but instead his actions at home. When his sons came home with trophies commending their participation, even though they didn't win, he returned the trophies; but not after posting his feeling on Instagram. Dr. Rice was asked to weigh in with Newsradio 740 KTRH. You can listen to the interview HERE

Recent professional trainings.

Dr. Melissa DeGeso-Jones just attended a wonderful training on “Getting Your Evaluation to the Educational Planning Table” which was presented by Special Education Attorney, Mark Kamleiter, Esq.  In that meeting, sponsored by the Florida Psychological Association, Dr. DeGeso obtained the most up-to-date information on how to best help parents who are unhappy with evaluations performed by school districts and how to make all of our RPG evaluations most educationally relevant.  Our comprehensive and more targeted evaluations are already taken seriously by school districts and we are always on the lookout for ways to stay on the cutting edge.

Dr. Wendy Rice attended a 2-day training on Collaborative Divorce that was presented by the Lone Star Group from Texas. This is Dr. Rice’s second intensive training in this revolutionary approach to divorce. Collaborative Divorce keeps families out of the court room, generally saves time and money and limits the emotional damage that is so often a bi-product of the divorce process.  Psychologists play the role of a neutral coach who attends all team meetings along with each party, their lawyer and a neutral financial professional.

To learn more about the Collaborative Divorce approach, view this Periscope video where Dr. Rice discusses the benefits it can bring to a family going through the difficult process that is divorce. CLICK HERE
