Join us and Newport Yogis for the final installment of the summer ‪biking‬ and ‪yoga‬ series! Meet at Reject's Beach at 8am for a yoga class, then bike around the Drive at 9:45am. BYO mat/towel, suggested donation of $10. Saturday also marks the 30th International Coastal Cleanup - so in partnership with Clean Ocean Access, we'll do a quick beach cleanup in between the class and the ride. Note: this ride will take the place of the regular Bike Newport Saturday group ride.

Miantonomi Open Tower

Looking for a new and different bicycling destination? Check out Open Tower at Miantonomi Park - great for road or mountain biking. This is a collaborative effort with the City of Newport, the Aquidneck Land Trust, and Bike Newport to provide locals and visitors alike with an opportunity to climb historic Miantonomi Tower, the highest point in Newport. You can see Block Island on a clear day! Visit from 10am-1pm.
Dedication of the George Redman Linear Park

Ridden the East Bay Bike Path lately? Construction on the Washington Bridge, connecting East Providence to India Point Park in Providence, is complete – transforming the original bike path into an 11-foot bikeway with a separate seven-foot walking path. On Monday morning, it will be dedicated in honor of the late George Redman, an East Providence resident and advocate for bike path development across Rhode Island.
Join us at the ceremony in Providence, or ride with Bike Newport program manager Liza from Bristol at 8:30am. Governor Gina Raimondo, RI DEM Director Janet Coit, and bike advocates and enthusiasts from around the state will be in attendance to celebrate this vital and improved connection. Florence Gray Center Open House &
Newport Health Equity Zone Launch

Right after, the Newport Health Equity Zone (HEZ), a project we are excited to be part of, is celebrating its official launch. Newport HEZ is about getting people excited and engaged about health for all. This four-year project, funded by the Rhode Island Department of Health, will focus on two Newport neighborhoods to learn from residents how to change health outcomes for the better.

Liberate your forgotten bikes and help them find new and welcoming owners while you make space in your basements and garages! Bring bikes in good condition (along with other recyclables and bulk waste) to:
Newport Fall Recycling Day: First Beach, 8am-12pm
Middletown Bulk Waste Day: Second Beach, 8am-1pm
A team from Bike Newport will be there to collect bikes for restoration and distribution in the community. Bikes beyond repair will still be recycled. Have bicycles you'd like to donate but can't make it on the 26th? Contact Liza.

Green Drinks is a global network of rotating gatherings, bringing together people interested and involved in a variety of environmental, conservation, and sustainability issues. Get to know Green Drinks Newport! Bike Newport is happy to host next month's event in our offices at 437 Broadway. Join us on October 1st, as Green Drinks honors the Volvo Ocean Race Sustainability Committee with the annual Environmental Stewardship Award from the Newport Energy and Environment Commission.
