Crazy stuff, but it seems there could be snow and cold, cold weather from Wednesday! Keep warm!!!

16th - 18th November 2017

In the foothills of the Maluti Mountains, on the border of the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho (as it’s officially known), you’ll find the unassuming town of Ficksburg. Surrounded by undulating hills and set against an imposing mountain backdrop, the town is a choosen destination for scores of holiday makers.
What makes Ficksburg stand out all the more, which might come as a surprise to some, is that it is ‘Cherry capital of the world’. To celebrate this title, the town annually hosts the Ficksburg Cherry Festival. The 2017 event runs from 16-18 November 2017.
The festival, which happens to be the longest running crop festival in South Africa, began in 1968. The main events back then were the street parades, the festive Cherry Ball and the crowning of the Cherry Queen. Today, attendees will see that activities and happenings of the festival have changed over time.
There will be a number of programs running concurrently throughout the festival, from the children’s events, and live music to workshops and the main program. There will be activities that run across the different age groups. Due to the popularity of this events in previous years, the wine and chocolate pairings are back by to popular demand. Furthermore, for the baking enthusiasts, there will be an introduction to cooking with cherries. Sports fanatics haven't been forgotten about, as there is a range of sporting events to take part in,  like the fun run and road cycle race. Kids, get your creative juices flowing with a scarecrow-making workshop or have fun at the circus. If you're looking for music of the eclectic kind, enjoy the sounds of a Scottish pipe band. With the endless activities on offer, everyone in the whole family are bound to have a marvellous time.

November November the Month of Movember...............

Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. The goal of Movember is to "change the face of men's health."

By encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as "Mo Bros") to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

A little facial hair goes a long way. More than just follicles on your face, your Mo is a ribbon – reminding the people in your life of the importance of men’s health.

Trucker, regent, connoisseur or wisp – no matter the shape or style of your Mo this Movember, your face can inspire donations, conversations and real change.

Grow a Mo! Come on....go!
Bethlehem parkrun is a FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards, which takes place every Saturday at 8:00am in Bethlehem Christian Centre and Caritas College, Preekstoel Road, Bethlehem 9701. It is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan.
It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE!
Taking part is easy – just register before your first ever parkrun. The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once! Then just set your alarm for Saturday morning and get yourself there!
Every week we grab a post parkrun coffee in the Bethlehen Christian Centre premises - please come and join us! Maybe swap stories about your run that day, chat to other runners over a cup of tea or coffee and just be an important part of this new running community.
So whether you are a complete novice looking to get yourself started on your own "running journey" or a seasoned athlete wanting to use this as a part of your training schedule, you’re welcome to come along and join us.

December the 1st worldwide is World Aids Day....

''Let's End It!"

That is this years World Aids Day Theme!

End isolation
End stigma
End HIV transmission

You’ve helped us fight HIV. Now, let’s end it.

This World AIDS Day join the fight to end the negative impact of HIV.

But our fight is not just about the virus. For the more than 100,000 people living with HIV, ignorance and discrimination can still limit opportunities, preventing them from living full and happy lives. HIV means you are more likely to live in poverty, and more likely to have poor mental health.
This is an exciting turning point. But we need a new burst of energy to end stigma, end HIV transmission and end the isolation experienced by people living with HIV, for good.

Share to end it.

Dear Clarens Business Owner,
It’s nearly holiday time and hopefully Clarens will enjoy another bumper Festive Season.
Although several attempts have been made over the years to bring some festive cheer to the village over the December holiday season, we as locals haven’t yet established a firm tradition in our village. This year the Clarens Community Forum (CCF) has decided to start something that we believe can grow year on year and become a firmly entrenched Clarens Christm...as Tradition for all to enjoy.
The plan is to ask all businesses to remain open and trading until 20h00 on Saturday 16 December. The entire Clarens community and guests in residence will be invited to bring a picnic and gather on the square. All businesses will be asked to decorate their own premises and the huge old oak tree on the square will be decked with lights. At approximately 7.15 pm (as soon as it gets dark) all the lights will be turned on simultaneously, heralding the 2017 Festive Season in Clarens.
The lights will remain on from 16 December to 6 January 2018 – and then be packed away safely until next year.
So what do we need from you?
Your participation:
Please agree to extend your trading hours until 20h00 on that Saturday.
We are asking all businesses, particularly those located on the square, to decorate their premises with lights and agree to turn them on at the nominated time.
Without you this initiative cannot succeed so we need the support of all businesses and residents in spreading the word to their colleagues, visitors and clients.
A contribution:
The cost to buy and install fairy lights in the oak tree on the square is approximately R10 000. To date we have managed to raise R5 000 from generous donations from Clarens Xtreme, The Posthouse, 278 on Main, Ashbrook Country Lodge and the Clarens Tourism Forum (CTF). So we need to raise some more money.
Please will you let me know asap if you are keen to participate in this initiative.
Also please let me know if you are willing to make a financial contribution and how much.
Let’s make Clarens very festive this year!
Best wishes
Vanessa Knowles

ICE CREAM CHRISTMAS PUDDING RECIPE

This pudding recipe serves eight.

Ingredients:
4 large free-range eggs
120 g castor sugar
300 ml double cream
120 g mix of sultanas, stoned raisins, glacé cherries, chopped almonds, currants and candied peel
3 tbsp brandy (optional)
2 tsp mixed spice

Method:
Combine the fruit mix and two tablespoons of brandy and leave to stand for a few hours or overnight. Separate the egg yolks from the whites, being very careful not to break the yolks. Beat the yolks with the sugar until thick and creamy. Add the mixed spice and a tablespoon of brandy. Whip the cream until it’s firm. Whisk the egg whites until they stand up in peaks. Stir the whipped cream into the yolks and sugar and add half the fruit mix. Then, using a metal spoon, gently fold the whisked egg whites into the mixture and add the rest of the fruit. Pour into a greased plastic bowl or mould and freeze overnight. Just before serving the pud, remove it from the freezer, briefly run some hot water over the sides of the bowl and then turn out onto a serving dish and place back in the freezer. Remove from the freezer a few minutes before serving so it softens.

Tip:
Serve with mixed berries or halved strawberries.
JUST FOR FUN :)
