Winter Classes

Welcome to the 17th newsletter of 212 STEAM Labs.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I know it was nice to get away from work and stress and spend time with family and friends. Even better was the amazing spread of food that has not been good for my waistline, but when you only get the dishes once a year you need to indulge!

Now that the holiday is over it is time to back into the swing of things.

Our classes for grades 3 - adult start back up this week.

We will be continuing to explore 3D printing. Our goal of this session is to help students really learn how to create quality designs in 3D rendered environments. We have spent time in previous classes designing cookie cutters. We will be moving into some new challenges so please stay tuned to see the work they will be creating for the holidays.

You can see some of our work so far in 3D printing by checking out this album here

Looking ahead our preschool morning classes starting in January is just about sold out. Additionally, our K-2 program only has a few spots remaining. Once the classes reaches the limit that is it. There will be no more. We pride ourselves in small class sizes and providing enough oversight to help students feel successful.

We were not successful in our goal for obtaining some grant funding. We will be working to figure out how to improve our applications for the next round, but we will be launching some new ideas to help keep the doors open. Thank you to everyone who have dedicated time, energy, materials, and more to help support the space. We cannot thank you enough.

I have posted instruction on Instructables to make your own 3D printed cookie cutter. Head on over and follow the steps to make your own.
I am trying to win a 3D printer for the 212 STEAM Labs space. There is an educator contest taking place on Pinshape and would love it if you liked the designed, downloaded the file and anything else you can do to show support so we win this printer.

LEGO Build Challenge #3: Holiday Display

Last month we launched our first LEGO Build Challenge, but it was a very short time frame as we announced the day before Halloween.

This month you have the entire month to build something epic. We are keeping with the holiday theme by focusing on Christmas and/or any holiday that you wish to celebrate and embrace.

Remember to use your imagination and bring your ideas to life!

Rules
1. Use whatever LEGO pieces you have available
2. Your own creation. We are not looking for purchased models, but you can surely use those pieces to craft your own. Let your imagination come alive!
3. Send you image of your work to aaronmaurer@212steamlabs.com
Include your name and age so I can feature you in the upcoming newsletters.

I cannot wait to see what you build!
We are looking to extend the learning. This requires more teachers. If you have a great idea for a class and want to make a few extra bucks, then submit an idea and let us see if we can make it work!
