Mordecai CAC October minutes:

• Mordecai CAC minutes from the Oct. 10, 2017 meeting Co-Chair Damon Vaughn welcomed 27 people in attendance. Each attendee introduced him or herself and gave their costume or Halloween plans.
• The September minutes were approved. Nominees are still needed for the Co-Chair term when Damon’s term ends. The term is January 2018 through December 2019, the first year serving with the now experienced Aaron. Please reach out to anyone on the leadership team to learn more about the duties, or chair@mordecaicac.org. Nominees will be presented at the November meeting and a vote will be held at the December meeting/holiday social.
• Police report, Officer Marx Over the last month there have been no commercial robberies, car break-ins were down from 14 to 3, and vandalism incidents were down from 3 to 1.
• Parks and Rec - Halifax Community Center Community center director, Emily Collins, thanked everyone for coming out to the National Night out event, there was a pretty good turnout. There is a new adult beginning drawing class, sewing workshops for ages 10- 14, and an upcoming Zumbathon. https://www.raleighnc.gov/parks/content/ParksRec/Articles/Parks/Halifax.html
• Proposed soccer stadium at the Halifax Mall, Billie Redmond, CEO and President of Trademark Properties Ms. Redmond gave a recent history of the team. The owner of the MLS team, Steve Malik, had these goals when he purchased the Carolina Railhawks in Oct. 2015.
  • 1. Rebrand the team. The team was renamed the NC Football Club.
  • 2. Purchased the national number one women’s soccer team, the Western NY Flash, brought them to NC, and renamed them the Carolina Courage.
  • 3. In December 2016 he made a bid to elevate the team to Major League Soccer (MLS). Part of that bid is the stadium. The MLS will announce two team additions in 2017, and two team additions in 2018. Eleven teams have submitted bids. The proposed stadium will have 22,000 seats, be seven stories tall, have a translucent roof, parking underneath, and a 300 room hotel, office space, and apartments.
  • 4. Merge CASL and TFCA creating NCFCY creating the largest youth to professional soccer club in the country. Our area now has national recognition as a soccer community. The stadium is contingent on the MLS decision.
• Committee Reports:
• Person Street Partnership, Philip Bernard. A current focus is on the future of currently zoned business properties along Wake Forest road.
• Water/Sewer Work,Dana Deaton gave a street work update. They expect to wrap up the work on Harding in mid-November then begin Watauga, starting at Wake Forest Road and moving toward Glascock. The Holden St project is up to Watauga now, next is the section between Elm and Bloodworth. Water lines are being replaced first, then sewer lines, then last the homes are hooked up.
• Signage Update, Sean Farres stated that enough money has been raised, including two grants from the city, to replace the two neighborhood signs. Once the signs are in place the community is responsible for upkeep.
• Neighborhood Community Specialist Michelle Bandklayder said the City of Raleigh Community Engagement Division now has a facebook and instagram presence. Please go and like them!
• The next Mordecai CAC meeting will be held on Tuesday November 14th, 7:30 pm, at the Mordecai Historic Park Visitors Center.
