Leaf Collection Time!

The annual Leaf collection is upon us. Residents can place leaf piles by the street for pick-up before the scheduled start date for their zone. Putting leaves out on the last scheduled day of leaf collection for their zone will likely not result in them being picked-up. The city will continue to pick-up bagged leaves curb side during regular waste collection. Many residents like to use the leaf mulch so it would be recommended to ask neighbors if they would like your bagged leaves before letting the city take them.

The Mordecai Community falls into zones 8 and 11.

More information on the leaf collection can be found at http://raleighnc.gov/services/content/PublicWorks/Articles/AnnualLeafCollection.html.

If possible, please try and park vehicles off of the street on the week leaf collection happens in your zone. It helps with the collection and will ensure no damage is done to your vehicle!

If you do not know your zone for city services simply enter your address at the form located at http://www.raleighnc.gov/services.

  • Zone 11 is highlighted in yellow. Leaf Collection will begin Thursday November 16. Have leaves to the curb on that morning
  • Zone 8 is highlighted in blue.  Leaf Collection began Monday November 6 and crews are still working in zone 8.

ADUs (Backyard Cottages) in the NEWS:

Last week, the INDY published an article about Accessory Dwelling Units, better known in our neighborhood as Backyard Cottages.  This has been an ongoing topic in the Mordecai CAC since 2011.  On Wednesday at the November 9 City Council meeting, Councilor Mary-Ann Baldwin brought the topic up again to council.  Following that meeting there were several news articles and an editorial in the News & Observer.

Please read the following articles and read our ADU page on the Mordecai CAC website.   If you have comments or feedback about this ongoing issue, please feel free to contact Philip Bernard, who has led the Mordecai CAC efforts to have our community approved as a pilot area for ADUs.
