Reserve your 2018 license number

Those members who are interested in keeping their numbers for 2018, are requested to mail Melinda Smal at melinda.smal@gmail.com before the END OF DECEMBER 2017.

There is no guarantee that we will get the same license numbers for 2018 as requested, especially for members who joined late in the year, as numbers issued by AGN later in the year might be additional numbers and do not fall within the numbers allocated for Magnolia.  This will specifically pertain to numbers consisting of 5 digits.

Magnolia Christmas Charity Run 10 December

We are once again hosting it from the lawns just outside the Boardwalk/Faerie Glen Virgin Active car park on Sunday 10 December 2017. Wear something festive and join us for the last club run of the year as we run for fun and for charity.

We are using this run to collect some items of need for the pediatric oncology ward in Steve Biko through Lemon Tree Kids. They requested specific stationary/toiletries/food items for the children receiving treatment:
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pencils
  • Sharpeners
  • Wax crayons
  • Pencil crayons
  • Small peanut butter
  • Small baked beans
  • Small aqueous cream
  • Small toothpaste + brush (children’s)

There is also a special festive season request. There is a young boy (12) Manqoaba who had a bilateral amputation and needs 2 artifical limbs. The estimated cost for Manqoaba's prosthesis is R100 000. Instead of or in addition to the items above you can make a donation to help Manqoaba walk again. You can bring cash to the run (we will have a bottle) or alternatively you can make a deposit as follows:

Account name: Jumping Kids Prosthetic Fund
Bank: Nedbank
Account number: 160 2417 555
Branch Code: 160245
Ref: Lemon-Tree-Kids NPC – Manqoaba

When: Sunday 10 December 2017
Time:  5:45 (walkers) 6:00 (runners)
Place: Faerie Glen Virgin Active (Boardwalk)

Lawley Street Christmas Light Walk 12 December

On Tuesday 12 December we will be taking our annual stroll up to Lawley Street to view the Christmas lights and return to the club house. We will start at 18:15 from the club house. All members and their families are welcome. Bring grandma, the kids and the dogs.....
Distance is about 7 km.
Please bring something reflective or wear a white top so that you are visible at night.
We will have a water point at the start of Lawley street with some snacks and lucky packets for the kids.

Comrades 2018 Magnolia Medal Bus

Would you like to be part of a unique “bus and running experience” for the 2018 Comrades Marathon? The idea is to get as many Magnolia members as possible with a Green number to run together from start to finish. To make the bus unique we will run with a banner indicating the total number of medals in the “bus”.  Name for the banner is still be determined but it will be something like, “Magnolia 150 Comrades Medal Bus”.

To accommodate all runners, our objective is to finish around 11 ½ hours. This might be a difficult decision for the faster runners as you would have to substitute your Bill Rowan/Bronze medal for an 11 ½ finish. As far as we are aware, it has never been attempted before to get a larger number of green numbers to finish together. This will mean that you will be part of something unique. You will be running and completing the Comrades with friends, all with a common goal to finish as a group. Some of our members have stopped running long distances but still would like to be part of this unique “bus” and are tempted to run again next year.

Our aim is to get as many medals as possible and would like to get 150+ medals.

To be part of this bus, you must:

  • Have a green number (completed 10 Comrades marathons or more)
  • Start in the E block.
  • Be a Magnolia member and run in Magnolia club colours on the day.
  • Start and end with the “bus”.

If you would like to be part of this unique bus please send an e-mail to Kenny at ske@lantic.net with the following information (this will also indicate if this initiative is viable):
  • Name and surname
  • Number of Comrades medals
  • Cellphone number

Massage Therapist

Thank you

Thank you to Dirk Olivier for doing the club tent at the King Price Irene Race and the Kaapsehoop race. The tent at the Kaapsehoop race was a warm welcome after a very hot day on the road.  We are not always aware of the challenges Dirk faces to get the club tent at the venue for us. And despite this he still does it even if it means only 5 runners come to the club tent.

Thank you to Charl Crouse and Glen Frost for doing the club run on Sunday 29 October. We appreciate each volunteer helping out in this regard.

Race reports and photos

Please send us your race stories and photos. We will upload it on the website.
