Winter Irrigation Tips to Save Water (and Money)

We’ve set the clocks back. Now it’s time to set our sprinklers back.

Every November, Alachua County’s irrigation restrictions change to accommodate the winter’s slow plant growth.

It’s crucial to ensure that your sprinkler or irrigation system is compliant with these restrictions and is working properly, in order to prevent fines, cut down your water bill and conserve water for our local Florida springs.

Alachua County’s irrigation restrictions determine when you can water your plants and lawn according to your address:

Tips for hassle-free irrigation and sprinkler compliance:

  • Put your system on an automatic timer, so you don’t have to remember when to turn it on and off.
  • Make sure that no sprinkler head spray zones are overlapping or over-watering certain areas on your lawn.
  • Make sure you have a rainfall shut off device (a.k.a. a rain sensor) attached to your system, which will interrupt sprinkler cycles when there’s been enough rain. Alachua County requires that all automatic sprinkler systems have a functioning rain sensor.

Raw Sun Power Episode 12: Green Man Festival and Trailer Troubles

In the latest episode of Raw Sun Power, we covered some fun events that are on the horizon for our company—and a not-so-fun trailer crisis…

The fun stuff: Green Man Festival is coming up in Gainesville! Local eco-conscious business owners, artists, crafters, and vegetarian vendors will gather to promote their work and education of green efforts.

It’s a great opportunity to support sustainability in Gainesville, eat well, and get moving outdoors after your Thanksgiving food coma.

Green Man Festival comes to Depot Park November 25 to 26. We’ll be there, offering plenty of fun giveaways at our booth!

As for the not-so-fun stuff...

Our trailer was jackknifed on a recent dark and stormy night.

Fortunately, all problems were cosmetic, and Sun Power Lawn Care was able to remain fully operational. But it’s still a headache and an expense that no small business owner looks forward to.
