The Cicada and the Ant plays to sold out house in Montreal
More than 400 children aged from 4 to 6, attended the two performances of The Cidada and the Ant presented by the Montreal North Cultural and Community Centre this past November 14th. With a rural setting as a backdrop, and evoking at once the reality of the incessant labor of working the earth and the contemplative pleasure procured from nature, this poetic production full of ingenious simplicity, charmed this very young audience.

Since it was first launched this fall, The Sursaut Squad, a workshop for elementary and high school students on the process involved in creating contemporary dance, has visited numerous schools. Through watching danced choreographic excerpts, and exercises where they are called on to move and to invent, the workshop guides children to explore the collaboration between the professions of choreographer and dancer.

Created with the intent of being very versatile and adaptable, and requiring no special installations, the workshop can be presented in different spaces, making it accessible to all school establishments. To date, in the 19 workshops offered, some 1000 students have participated in this inspiring adventure which continues till the month of April.
Training classes, registration is open to professionals and students at the intermediate/advanced levels
From January 22nd to January 26th 2018, David Rancourt, who gave a wokshop this past November, returns to Sherbrooke to offer a master class inspired by Qi Gong.

Me Squared, a production choreographed by Stephanie Brochard, returns to Sherbrooke. Premiered in 2015, the show has been fine-tuned, and will be presented at the Cultural Centre of Sherbrooke University for the general public as part of the Choux-Bizz series on January 14th 2018, and at two school matinées on January 15th.
This contemporary work, presents three characters performed by Amandine Garrido Gonzalez, Jasmine Inns and Xavier Malo, who at the dawn of adolescence, confront each other in their need to express both their individuality and their need to belong to a group. The quest for identity, particularly strong at this stage of life, is manifested through a dynamic and bubbling physicality, that ably portrays both conflict and communion.

Choreographic creation workshop open to the general public
Once again this year, Sursaut offers teachers and all others interested, the opportunity to participate in an inspiring physical activity, to plunge into the universe of movement with choreographer Francine Châteauvert. Through guided explorations, and corporal memory games, the participants will be led to create short choreographic phrases.
Our precious collaborator Marie-Anne O’Reilly, responsible for communications and development, is leaving us till next fall to devote herself to her newborn. We wish her all the best in living these precious moments.
The members of Sursaut wish to welcome Katerine Boisclair to our ranks; she will be replacing Marie-Anne at communications during her absence.
Already 30 years!
To mark the 30 years of Francine Châteauvert as artistic director of the company, Sursaut published a souvenir photo album, with a collection of photos from her numerous productions created over the years. Punctuated by notes and reflections from Francine, the album captures the spirit and the identity that she has given the company over the three decades of her diligent and inspired work, dedicated to creation.
