New Director of Finance
We welcome Doreen Zaksheske, a new director of finance, as our “treasured” Sharon Hiegel heads toward retirement in January after working at MPS for 18 years. Mrs. Hiegel plans to spend more time with her husband Tom and son Stephen Hiegel as well as daughters Lauren Hiegel ’01 and Kristen Hiegel Wieczorek ’02 and grandchildren, Nellie and Blain.
Mrs. Zahskeske is a Harborcreeek High School grad and earned a BS in accounting from Penn State Behrend. She has been married to Erieite Michael Zaksheske for 35 years and they are the proud parents of three boys.
The Zahskeskes have lived in various places, but most recently in Atlanta, where she was employed as VP of accounting and operations at the Center of the Visually Impaired.
They purchased a home in the Frontier area that was built in 1906 and state that they are back in Erie for good. Please feel free to introduce yourself to Mrs. Zaksheske when you visit MPS.

Open House
We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who had anything to do with our 2017 Open House. It was a great, great day. The energy was high and there was a sense of school pride and hospitality that showed how well the MPS community works together for the purpose of showing others who we are. The tour guides were fantastic – articulate, knowledgeable, and welcoming. We so appreciate our board members, students, alumni, administrators, teachers, maintenance, office staff, parent volunteers, bakers, our speaker and MCs, van drivers and parking lot attendants, phone callers, coaches and groundskeepers. All of you had an important part in this day and we thank you. You are all a blessing to us at MPS.
Eighth grade students who submitted an application on or before Open House were eligible to participate in a drawing for one of five $1,000 tuition scholarships for freshman year. Winners are: Amanda Brown – JS Wilson, Cole Dombrowski – Wattsburg Middle School, Katelyn Robson – Iroquois, Ethan Rupp – St. George, Jalen Salvi – Erie Day School.
The Open House winners of the Instax Mini 9 Instant Camera and $100 worth of film are Anna Tishchenko (photo, above) from J.S. Wilson and Natalia Miksa from Walnut Creek.
Again, thank you for making our Open House extra special!
