Open Hearts, Open Minds

"Whatever views we hold, we should be careful not to get caught up in thinking that our view is the "best" and that only we have the truth… We should always keep our hearts open to the people who have different views or beliefs. Practicing openness and non-attachment to views is fundamental in Buddhism."

-- Thich Nhat Hanh

This Sunday

Sangha Care

Insightful Haiku

Gratitude to sangha member, Stana Luxford Oddie, for this beautiful Haiku, written returning home from last week's gathering (now on our Member Blog):

Thoughts, Words, and Actions

"What you think, what you say, and what you do is your continuation—a kind of energy that will continue for a long time. When your body has disintegrated, you continue onward because of the three kinds of energy that you produce every day. . . When you are no longer in this form of body, then your action—your karma, what you produce in terms of thinking and speech and action—is your continuation. That’s why when you practice mindfulness, concentration, and insight, you can assure a good, beautiful continuation in the future."

Sunday at KUF

On Remembering

Rev. Beckett Coppola will speak this Sunday, November 12th at 10:30 am about remembering - how seemingly opposing emotions like grief, anger, laughter, and nostalgia can be held in our hearts and our minds simultaneously, and how powerfully important it is that we take moments to remember.
Seeing the Buddha in the Here and Now

"I think that the Buddha is already here. If you are mindful enough you can see the Buddha in anything, especially in the sangha. The twentieth century was the century of individualism, but we don’t want that anymore. Now we try to live as a community. We want to flow like a river, not a drop of water. The river will surely arrive at the ocean, but a drop of water may evaporate halfway. That’s why it is possible for us to recognize that the presence of the Buddha is the here and now. I think that every step, every breath, every word that is spoken or done in mindfulness—that is the manifestation of the Buddha. Don’t look for the Buddha elsewhere. It is in the art of living mindfully every moment of your life.
