Principal’s Message
This week we said goodbye to Deputy Principal Richard Fox. Richard has been at ADHS for 14 years, 10 years of these as Deputy (students). His implementation of practices that greatly contributed to a calm, moderate and restorative school is his most significant contribution and the impact will be felt for a long time. This challenging role meant that Richard was frequently the interface with parents and families. His partnerships with parents have led to highly successful outcomes for students. The whole ADHS community wishes Richard the very best in his next role – as Deputy at Lake Tuggeranong College!
ADHS was recently awarded the ACT Children’s Week 2017 Youth Commitment Award ‘for seeing a need in the community and working together to create a solution!' The Disability Awareness Program (DAP) is a partnership between ADHS and The Woden School where student mentors have the opportunity to participate in a camp and different activities at The Woden School throughout the year. ADHS students are able to form meaningful and rewarding relationships with The Woden School students and the program is of great benefit to all students and teachers.
I take this opportunity to remind year 6 prospective parents of the Parent Information forum on 15th November at 5.45 – 6.45pm. The time is within the time frame of the year 6/7 Disco and supper will be provided. This parent forum will introduce new parents to:
On Monday and Tuesday last week our community witnessed remarkable evenings of artistic talent from within ADHS where our core values of Excellence and Community were fully on display. The Access All Areas (AAA) was held in the Canberra College Performing Arts Centre at (CCPAC). The quality of the event was most impressive - smooth transitions and polished performances, fabulous dance choreographed to reveal stunning stories, amazing perceptive and confronting dramatic performance, a funny circus act, singing to die for, art that awed the viewers, performed by over 200 students! The standard and quality of performance was exceptional, as was the Art Exhibition also on display – ceramics, drawing and painting.
This event has taken enormous effort, and a great deal of planning and coordination. The entire performance was student inspired and managed, and I would especially like to acknowledge the students who made up the stage crew, and lighting and sound technicians. Further, the Arts and Tech staff must be congratulated for their hard work, commencing in early term three and involving many hours of auditioning, programming, rehearsal and coordination - quality teachers providing authentic opportunities for excellence for ACT public school students. Thank you so much!
Congratulations:
William Jones – winner of the ICAS medal for English – he achieved the highest score (NSW & ACT) for year 8 students!
Fiona Dempsey – Business & Facilities Manager on her Graduate Certificate in Education Business Leadership.
Lachlan Rowe, year 10, received the “Best in School” Award and the “Australian Maths Trust Prize” Award which includes the AMT Medal (he received it for being in the top 1% in Australia), and he recently received a High Distinction in the Australian Mathematics Olympiad.
