Members and guests met in Canada

IAEH promoted its first meeting in North America on October 4th
IAEH meeting in Montreal

IAEH members and guests met at the Contemporary Art Museum at La Place des Arts, the largest cultural and artistic complex of Montreal. Members from the USA, Austria, Canada and Denmark attended. In total, 16 people participated, including guests from the UK and Canada.

IAEH members met to receive an update on the formal constitution of the organisation and to discuss effective ways of sharing event hosting expertise. This included identifying steps towards establishing an international standard approach for measuring impacts of hosting major events.

Tourisme Montreal - IAEH member

Tourisme Montréal is a private, non-profit organization, founded in 1919 and incorporated in 1924.  It comprises more than 750 members and partners from Montréal’s tourism industry, who share the common goal of promoting the city as a premier travel destination. Its mission is to assume leadership of the collective effort to promote and position Montréal as a premier destination for business, sporting events and leisure travel, while creating business opportunities for its members and partners.

Tourime Montréal has been an IAEH member since October 2016. The full list of IAEH members and their profiles can be accessed here

Projects and partnerships

- Report on best practice
- Development of an international tool to measure impacts
IAEH has been liaising with relevant industry organisations to develop projects applying members' expertise in hosting major sporting and cultural events.

IAEH + Host City Magazine
A report on best practice in hosting major events co-authored by IAEH and Host City Magazine would focus on four main areas: Economy, People, Promotion and City Development. The partnership would involve researching IAEH members to determine how they set objectives for outcomes from events hosted in their cities.
IAEH + Sportcal
GSI Pillars
At the 2017 Annual Forum in April, IAEH members voted and decided that measuring social and economic impacts is the highest priority issue for event hosts.

Although there are several tools available to help event hosts to measure impacts, they were developed based on different criteria and using different methodologies making it impossible to compare and replicate studies.
Through the Global Sports Impact Project, Sportcal has been working to develop an international standardised methodology to measure a range of event impacts and is inviting IAEH members to collaborate. The idea is to take advantage of members' expertise to determine relevant criteria initially focusing on the GSI Pillars of ‘Social’, 'Tourism' and ‘Economic’ impact.

Updates on the progress of these partnerships as well as any new potential partnership will be communicated by the end of this year.
Next meeting in Glasgow
After Montreal, IAEH members will meet again in Glasgow, Scotland
The third IAEH meeting in 2017 will take place in Glasgow on November 29th at 1pm, right after the last session of the Host City conference. Members will get detailed updates on IAEH's current activities, new members, new formal structure, new resources and discuss potential partnerships.
IAEH formally incorporated
Company Limited by Guarantee
IAEH is now formally incorporated as a not-for-profit Company Limited by Guarantee. This implements the governance structure approved at the Annual Forum meeting in April but, following a review by the Steering Group, involves registration with Companies House in England and Wales, rather than with the Charity Commission.
