We are two weeks away from World AIDS Day 2017 (December 1st) and the HUD Office of HIV/AIDS Housing (OHH) wants to hear from you!

On World AIDS Day we come together as a global community to recognize the progress that has been made in the fight against HIV/AIDS. HUD supports these efforts in many ways including the work of OHH to elevate housing as a structural intervention to end the AIDS epidemic.

This year, HUD commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Program. As the only federal program dedicated to the housing needs of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), HOPWA serves approximately 55,000 households with housing assistance and an additional 50,000 households with supportive services each year.

OHH knows that a stable home provides the solid base that allows PLWHA to access medical care and improve health outcomes. While data is key in proving stable housing positively effects health outcomes, it doesn’t always translate the lasting impact of stable housing for low-income families living with HIV/AIDS. Sometimes a personal story cuts right through.

HUD wants to hear from you on how HOPWA-assisted housing and supportive services has helped individuals achieve and maintain viral suppression.

OHH will use your responses to supplement the data regularly provided to Congress and to enhance the understanding of HOPWA’s role in the lives of PLWHA at the federal level.
