Hi all!

The upcoming episode of The Better Show is all about eating to perform at your best. Here is your weekly set of tips, fun facts and other exclusive content from us at The Better Show. Enjoy and share with a friend :)

Tip of the week

Your diet choices can affect the level of dopamine in your brain, which is the neurotransmitter tied to motivation and drive. Caffeine can give you a temporary boost in dopamine but you can also raise your dopamine levels by eating foods such as sunflower seeds, ripe bananas, and beans.

Look clever at a cocktail party

Did you know that since the 1940's scientists have observed in animal studies that intermittent fasting dramatically increased lifespan (in some studies doubling it)?  There are ongoing studies to determine whether the same is true for humans.

What are Ian, Darren & March up to this week?

  • Ian is experimenting with eating small batch 100% dark chocolate because it lowers blood pressure, which can help fight heart disease, the leading cause of death in America.
  • Darren is on a salad streak, eating at least one salad a day, five times a week.
  • March is experimenting with time restricted feeding based on the research of Dr. Satchin Panda

Listen to an upcoming show to hear how our experiments went and what we learned!

Article of the week

"From Bangladesh to Brazil, or what photojournalism can reveal about food and cultural context."

Product of the week

Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes

This was one of the first books March read on nutrition that started him thinking about what he was eating and how to approach nutrition to help improve his life. It's a foundational read on why we believe that carbs are good for us and fat is bad, the history of how we came to believe that, and an exploration of the evidence of whether it's true.
