Campus Sustainability Highlights

New multicampus course gets students involved in practical climate change solutions 

"Bending the Curve: Climate Change Solutions" will launch at six UC campuses in 2018.  The lectures are aimed at students from various academic backgrounds, encourage students to work together toward solution-focused projects, and will be delivered by top experts in their fields across the UC system. 
 

The environmental cost of free 2-day shipping

The latest video in the Climate Lab series, the product of a partnership between UC and Vox, explores the environmental impact of online shopping and solutions to make it more sustainable.

Solar panels bring shade, light, and green energy to UC Riverside

Students using UC Riverside's parking lots near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Canyon Crest Drive once tried to park as close as possible to classrooms and avoid a long walk from the lots' far ends. But now they have it made in the shade. 9,600 solar panels on campus lots now cover, light, and shade 2,450 parking spaces. 
 

UCSF Labs: Five ways to use less power and save more lives

UCSF Labs are very energy intensive due to specialized equipment. A poster campaign aims to reduce the campus' carbon footprint by calling researchers to reduce wasted energy by turning off lab equipment and monitors during non-occupied hours.

Nico Linesch Boundary Crossing Scholar's Award accepting applications

The California Student Sustainability Coalition and the Linesch family are pleased to announce the award in honor of Nico Linesch, who passed away January 2017. The Nico Linesch Boundary Crossing Scholar Award will provide $4,000 stipends for students who design interdisciplinary internships in agencies whose budgets limit their capacity to offer compensation. Applications are due January 2, 2018.
