<<Salutation>>
How can it be November? The sun is shining, the birds are singing and it is warm and sunny here in Gembu! Greetings, it is time to update all on what God is doing here on the Mambilla Plateau.
Buildings are coming along well. We will be moving into the upper level of the Hospital this week, this was delayed a bit with a few challenges but we are excited to be moving in. We will also be moving the counselors, the Eye Center and the Computer Training Center to their new spaces over the next 10 days. As soon as funding is available we can start remodeling the old computer center and counseling area for the TB testing and ward space.
This past month we had the wonderful privilege of having Sarah Storkel, a wonderful young nurse who spent two weeks with us working with our nurses and Clinic personnel in best practices, wound care and so many things. She taught, encouraged, and challenged. We are so thankful for her visit and her expertise shared here.
Tina continues working with Funmi on teaching math lessons 4 times a week and reading lessons 6 times a week. In October they started going into one of the local schools working with 4th, 5th & 6th graders that are struggling with reading. They have already seen progress with these students! Lesson planning on Saturdays and working on talks for the radio program and church and Youth Corps Groups as well as work on the compound here and promoting Days for Girls and educating women on reproductive health and ways to get that message to more women.
Dan keeps thing moving forward here, working with Taiwo on financial areas in the ministry and keeping the building projects and workers moving the right way as well as preparing for our Third Global Leadership Summit here in Gembu. He is printing books, as we have very few leadership resources and no leadership books to help develop leaders here. We are looking forward this week to a wonderful Global Leadership Summit and time connecting with Gembu’s leaders, both in business and church. The Summit will be held in our new hall November 9 and 10.
As you plan your 2017 year end and 2018 giving we want to make you aware of some opportunities at GECHAAN.
1) The TTP (Technical Training Program) is moving forward. We have made a few adjustments over the first year and we believe that we now are in a good rhythm. The target group is youth ages 18 to 25 that have had limited education. They are a group that is at risk. The program is for most students about 12 months long, depending on the trade. Every 3 months we are giving the entrance exam and then remedial classes between for those that do not pass. When a student enters the program they will spend from 12 to 18 months with a professional in the trade they select. They will also spend at least 3 months in business classes at GECHAAN learning how to turn that skill into profit. At the end of the program they will have testing and after “graduation” we will purchase items for them to begin their business. The cost per student is only $600, $50 per month, or $1.66 per day. This can be a special gift or monthly giving. For less than 1 cup of coffee per day, you can change a life forever! We can even send you a picture and profile of the student so that you can pray for them!
2) As we said in last months newsletter we have 2 nurses assigned by the state with the availability for possibly more. However, we are out of staff housing. For about $3,000 per room, we can build additional Studio apartments to house staff. We would like to build another 6 unit building.
3) The Remodeling of the building for a TB Ward will cost around $12,000 and is desperately needed to separate these highly infectious people from the other patients.
4) We would like to put together another container of medical supplies this year. Specifically items for the Surgical area of the hospital. We know that items are available so we just need to raise the money for the container, shipping, & duty. About $20,000.
If you would like to hear more about any of these opportunities or want to participate please reply and we will be happy to help you!
In His Service,
Dan & Tina Gibbs
