Musical Mats!

Place mats or sheets newspaper on the floor.

Play music, everyone dance.

Stop the music.

Everyone find a mat or sheet of newspaper and do chosen pose.

Take a mat or sheet of newspaper away and repeat until one mat/ sheet of newspaper left!

Its fun at the end for everyone to get onto the mat - make sure you explain that everyone is winner if we all get onto the mat or paper - so perhaps choose mountain or tree pose.
Its fun to all work as team!

At the end, everyone gets a prize yoga magick mushroom (from our halloween blog) as a yummy and colourful treat!

St. Wilfrid's School Fashionistas!

This competition is for St Wilfrid's School in Hartford, Cheshire. They are the first school to go for the wellbeing award of MMY School Status - setting the standard for emotional wellbeing for students and staff. They are well on their way to achieving this.

What makes this school stand out and why we are running the competition, is that the Young PTA have raised the money to train their teachers, rather than it coming out of pupil premium, as it often does for schools.

The competition winner will be announced next week in assembly, along with 2nd and 3rd prizes.

The first prize will be Yoga leggings of the students unique design, made up by Tom from Outfitsport, who has kindly offered to do this for free! We can't wait to see the winning design!

My Favourite recipes

Namaste Mini Me team!!

Instead of writing an article this month I thought I would share some of my tried and tested recipes. All of these healthy recipes I use on a regular basis and have adapted where necessary. I have a sweet tooth and many years before I began my healthy nutrition journey, I used to live on a high sugar diet. Jelly sweets were my go to……imagine that!! I was so addicted to sugar. About ten years ago I changed my nutrition drastically and now eat very low sugar, HOWEVER, I still love sweet treats!! Most of these recipes are low, or no sugar, treats which go with my daily cup of tea. Willow sticks to fruit as her only sugar but if you have older children who need a sweet fix, these recipes are prefect. Other recipes are weekly dinners for us all or savoury snacks, some of which I have adapted for little Willow. Please try and enjoy every mouthful knowing that you are still feeding your body in a healthy way!!

SWEET TREATS

These GORGEOUS little cups are easy to make and taste just like Nutella without the bad stuff!!

https://blog.paleohacks.com/dark-chocolate-avocado-truffles/#
Here is a lovely truffle recipe which enables you to eat more healthy fat in the form of avocado!! I can’t get enough avocado in my life so this is another way to add it in!!

http://holisticallyengineered.com/2013/07/paleo-chocolate-cupcakes.html
These cupcakes are amazing!! More avocado and I prefer not to use stevia as a sweetener (simply as I don’t like the taste), so I use honey or date syrup

I can’t even begin to tell you how good these are…….YUMM!! They really taste like Bounty bars!! I don’t use protein powder so I add more coconut flour. I use date syrup and my go to chocolate is organic 92%, I use 2 bars. The big kids will love these!!

We absolutely LOVE this recipe. Great as a weekend dinner. Full of goodness and with grass fed mince the taste is amazing. I made a batch of the taco mix ages ago and am still using it for all sorts of Mexican recipes!

Some people hate liver, I love it and so does Willow. This recipe is so easy and with grass fed butter we have great fats along with adding offal to our diet….yummy!! go on, give it a try!!

http://www.therisingspoon.com/2013/11/cheddar-jalapeno-coconut-flour-biscuits.html
These are lovely as a savoury biscuit to nibble on!! Or you could use them as side to chilli etc? I add more cheese and less jalepeno for Willow.

Even though we are meat eaters, we source our meat carefully and it is never from CAFO farms. However at least twice a week we are meat free and this is our favourite Vege dish!!

"Autumn Spiced Roasted Nuts Coconut, & Pumpkin Seeds"

Today’s recipe will give you a beautiful snack, appetizer, or accompaniment to a Holiday meal that hearkens to the comfort and nostalgia of the season that will keep you and your guests coming back for more!

Autumn Spiced Roasted Nuts, Coconut, & Pumpkin Seeds

[Gluten Free & Vegan]

Active Prep Time: 5 minutes

Inactive Prep Time:  none

Cooking Time: 30-40 minutes

Yield:  approx. 3 cups

1 flax egg (1 tablespoon ground flax + 3 tablespoons cold water)

2 c raw nuts (cashew, pecans, hazelnuts, etc. - feel free to mix and match your favorites!)

1 c raw pumpkin seeds

1/3 c unsweetened dried coconut flakes

2 teaspoons flax and/or sesame seeds

3 teaspoons cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon pink sea salt

1/4 c coconut sugar

What you'll need:  Medium mixing bowl, small bowl, parchment paper, large baking tray or cookie sheet, heat resistant spatula

1.  Preheat oven to 300 degrees.  Combine flax and water in a small bowl.  Wait 2-3 minutes for the flax to hydrate and create your "egg whites."  Line tray or sheet with parchment paper.

2.  Combine all remaining ingredients except hemp hearts in mixing bowl.

3.  When "egg" is ready, add to dry ingredients to coat well and distribute spices and seasonings uniformly.

4.  Transfer mixture to parchment lined tray and spread evenly.

5.  Bake for 30-40 minutes, turning the mixture with the spatula periodically, or until golden brown.  While hot, the texture will not be crisp, but trust that as it cools, the caramelized sugar will harden to create a candied texture.

6.  Serve and enjoy once fully cooled.

So simple and great to make ahead of time.  And what a great, healthful alternative to the snacks that flood the holiday market at this time.  Brimming with healthy fats, great fiber and protein, and no refined sugar.  Need some last minute gifts?  Pour some into small mason jars, tie a bow on it, and Presto! A present you know they will use, and once the contents are gone, a container they will be able to use again and again. Canary and Mother Earth approved.

Enjoy this warming recipe and may you find opportunities for  laughter, connection, gratitude, and love in abundance this Holiday season!

Autumn Leaves!

Collect leaves from the ground that have fallen - take them home and dry them off.

When the leaves are dry, place them in a heap on the floor. Each child can pick a card and make the pose out of the leaves on the floor - they can all do it at the same time or as a group, whatever works best!
