Christmas bags for Rainbow Pre-school in Masi
We would once again like to make up some Christmas bags for the children of Rainbow Pre-School in Masi. They will be having their Christmas Party early this year on 10 November, so we are asking if you could please donate some items as generously as possible!!!
All items need to be in by Thursday 9th November!!!!!  I understand that it is short notice, but let’s see what we can do!!!!!!
We will be doing things slightly differently this year in that we ask you to bring a few items rather than a whole box of items. We will be packaging all the items to make up the Christmas boxes.
We have given each class specific items to collect. Please see below.
We are collecting for 80 children, 4 teachers, one Principal and one Secretary.
(If you are able to donate a few of each item it would be appreciated so that each class collects 80 items that we can then package)

Rainbow: mini packets of sweets, (just those small mini packets) and any chocolates for the teacher bags
Penguin: small Toothpaste and any toiletries for the teacher bags
Sea Horse: face cloth and soap and any items for the teacher bags
Angelfish: R20 donation towards crayons and any items towards the teacher bags
Starfish: R20 towards colouring books and any items towards the teacher bags
Shark: Small toothbrushes and any toiletries for the teacher bags

We thank you in advance for your support and generosity!!!!!

AFRICA A+
We have interviews with Africa A+ researchers and facilitators this week, to share our experiences and all the wonderful things that we have managed to do with the children this year. It is very exciting as we get to the end of the first year with this wonderful group of people.

WORMS! WORMS! WORMS! AND WORM TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have some deliciously fat worms in our wormery at school as well as worm tea that we would like to sell or swop for some vegetables for our veggie garden or plants, particularly cacti for the bed at the front gate.
We are having trouble with vagrants sleeping in the flower bed and need to plant some ‘spiky’ plants to deter them.
Please come and chat with us in the office if you have an interest in the worms.
FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.
WANTED
WE NEED NEWSPAPER PLEASE!!!!
Thank you to those parents who have brought in paper for us. Please continue to bring it in.
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

Maths: Capacity and volume
Language:  Blending and reading 3 letters

Our class are collecting toothbrushes for the Rainbow school. Please remember to send them to school by Thursday 9 November, that's this week.
A few parents have been asking about costumes for the Nativity and Graduation that takes place at 3 pm on Saturday 25 November. Our class party will be at school on Monday 27 November. Our theme will be Christmas so the children can dress up as an elf, Father Christmas, a star, a fairy and angel etc or just wear red and green with a Christmas hat. Please do not buy costumes and please note no hero costumes such as Batman, Spiderman, Hulk etc. I will send out letters requesting R10 or cupcakes, chips etc. If there is a mom who is happy to bake Christmas theme cupcakes please let me know. Last year we had a healthy party. Cheese, Vienna, sandwiches, rainbow jelly, popcorn etc and the children loved it. I've ordered a piñata in the shape of a star. Piñatas are filled with sweets and those are the only sweets the children will have at the party.  The children are blindfolded and have to hit the piñata until it breaks then there's a scramble for sweets but the children will be asked to gather the sweets that are individually wrapped and they have to work co-operatively to share them equally. The children have been learning how to do this in maths as we have been doing it when we learned about fractions and in problem solving. Most mornings the children are given word problems and have to decide if its an addition or subtraction sum eg I went to the shop and bought 6 sweets. When I got home I had to share them with my brother. How many sweets did each of us get. I repeat the sum with various numbers and have introduced the word remainder. I also do various subtraction sums and the children love the stories. We will be recapping patterns in nature and the environment as well as doing auditory patterns and patterns in number. The children enjoyed designing their own T-shirt, and I was amazed at how good they were at trick finger patterns. It is amazing how they have become so aware of patterns and notice them on clothes and when building with blocks and the various toys they are making patterns.

I am collecting empty tuna tins for Christmas decorations please send in any cans you collect.

We will continue to go for goals and the tasks we set the children are all skills required in Grade 1. I urge you to encourage your child to extend the following skills at home: tying a shoe lace, writing their name and surname, know date of birth and address. In our movement lessons we will continue to practice skipping with a rope.
Please remember to put sun-cream on your children and to send them to school with caps or hats.
It is a busy term so please diarise dates and keep them free especially for our concert and graduation
