Debate: How do we campaign with so many ethical labels?

7pm-9pm, Thursday 23rd November 2017
UCL Institute of Education, 26 Bedford Way, London WC1H 0AP

Recent years have seen the rise of alternative certification systems to Fairtrade - Rainforest Allice, Fair for Life - variations on the Fairtrade model - the Fairtrade Sourcing Programmes - and now ‘own brand certification’ systems like Cocoa Life.

Fairtrade activists have questions.

How will this impact on our campaigning?
How can we continue to influence our communities?
How do we share the message that Trade Justice matters?

This debate will provide a safe space to ask questions and seek answers.

The government has promised to support farmers and workers in the world’s poorest communities when we leave the EU.

And yet they have just published a trade bill legislating for the UK to become an independent global trading nation post-Brexit that gives MPs, civil society and the public absolutely no say in any future trade agreement.

We are calling on the Trade Minister, Liam Fox, to amend the Trade Bill and ensure that we have a democratic and transparent process for negotiating and signing trade deals.

The petition is being handed in TOMORROW. It is on 19,000 signatures. Please help and let's get it up to 20,000 signatures!
