WELCOME TO NOVEMBER!
Please take note of the following updates and reminders:

ART EXHIBITION AT MILNERTON LIBRARY:

From Wednesday this week, we will be hosting an art exhibition at the Milnerton Library. Feel free to go and see what our little ones have been up to during ArtXpress lessons.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Step out in style at our 2017 Capriccio! Academy Awards Concert & Grade R graduation - Come sparkle, shimmy and shine with us on Tuesday, 5th December, 12h00 for 12h30 at View Church Milnerton, Jasmin rd, Milpark.

Buy your tickets now at R75 per seat (free entry for babies/pre-schoolers, provided they sit on parent's lap; participants remain backstage). Tickets payable via EFT only into the school account (ref: CA learner's name; pls send proof of payment to: admin@artspreschool.co.za with a cover letter stating name of learner and number of tickets required)
. Kindly note that due to limited space, we unfortunately have to limit the number of tickets that may be bought, to 3 per learner (4 for Grade R learners). Please note that seats are numbered and allocated on a first come, first served basis. Should you require more than 3 tickets, please click here to send a request for consideration - If there are seats left by Friday 17th November, we will contact you.

We ask parents to kindly ensure that children attend school every day, unless they are ill, in order not to miss concert rehearsals.

Thank you so much to the parents who kindly offered to assist with decor, costumes and props. We endeavored to make it a little easier this year with not as many props to make or costumes to sew. (Pheww!) However, we do still need the following:

- sturdy cardboard boxes (not small ones), for art display purposes
- flat pieces of large cardboard for decor cut-outs
- unused PVA paint (especially white, black, red or gold) standing around at home

If you are able to assist, we'd be grateful if you could please send the item(s) to school.

CONCERT REFRESHMENTS:

We would kindly like to ask each family to bring a plate of bite-sized finger foods to the event, that may be shared and enjoyed with our guests in the foyer after the concert. To ensure a balanced variety is provided, your little one will receive a slip with details in advance.

Water, juice, tea and coffee will be available on a complimentary basis, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Des Engineering.

CONCERT CLOTHING:

Children will be wearing the following as a "base outfit", which may be accessorized by the teachers. Remember to label each item clearly & send to school on a labelled plastic hanger between 27 - 30 Nov.

STAFF NEWS:

Congratulations to Teacher Rosina, who is now our new vice-principal. She will continue teaching our Stravinsky class in 2018.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to my personal assistant and our school office administrator, Una van Rhyn, whose daughter passed away recently. Una will not be returning to school in the immediate future. Our prayers are with her and her family.

We would like to welcome and thank Tania de Faria, who is assisting us in the office on a temporary basis.

WARMER DAYS ARE HERE!

Remember to apply sun block daily in the morning before school and send a (preferably wide-brimmed) hat and flip flops/Crocs labelled with your child's name, that may be kept at school. Kindly ensure that all hats, shoes and removable clothing items are clearly labelled with your child's name. If your little one attends aftercare, please send a sun spray/sun block (also labelled) that may be kept at school for application during aftercare.

Please ensure your little girl has her dance wear at school (we keep anklets at school and wash it here). DemiDance for Beethoven & Chopin takes place on Mondays and for Mozart & Stravinsky, on Tuesdays - remember to dress your little girl in pink and/or black, with hair in a neat ballet bun on these days please.

All children to please wear their Capriccio shirts on Fridays.

SANTA SHOEBOX CHARITY PROJECT:

Thank you for helping us make a difference in so many underprivileged children's lives - We were hoping to donate 20 boxes; with your help, we managed to donate 30!

FLEXINASTICS:

Teacher Tashai is exploring the possibility of offering pre-gymnastics lessons at our school in the afternoons next year. Should you be interested in this as an optional extra, please click here.

WELCOME DAY FOR NEW FAMILIES:

On Friday afternoon 24th November, we will be welcoming parents and children who will be joining our school family as from January 2018. The aftercare service will run normally.

BAD HAIR FAIRIES:

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us to nip this in the bud before it could become a serious issue - We understand that there are other schools in the area that have not been so lucky. Please be vigilant and continue checking your little one's hair and scalp on a daily basis for head lice and nits. If you discover any, please inform your child's teacher and keep your little one at home for treatment until 100% free of all lice and nits.

COMMUNICATION:

To keep our parents informed, we currently use the following main methods of communication:

  • WhatsApp groups - weekly messages applying to all group members are sent out by the teacher and/or school principal. In an effort to be considerate towards our parents, we ask all to kindly refrain from posting social messages on these groups and please only message your little one's teacher privately (not via the groups), e.g. if your child will be absent. If there is something you wish to share with the class' parents, please send your request to me via WhatsApp first. Kindly send messages during the school week only; mornings between 7h30 and 8h30 and afternoons between 14h00 and 17h00.

  • Monthly News (email) -  sent out during the first half of a complete school month

  • Quarterly Newsletter (email) - sent out towards the end of each school quarter

  • Facebook - photographs and updates are posted at the end of each week.

  • Message books - We are phasing out the message books next year, as teachers and parents agree that communication via personal WhatsApp messages or sms's are more effective.
  • Email: Should you have concerns with regard to your child's development that you have addressed with your child's teacher personally, please contact me via email to arrange an appointment to discuss these with me and your little one's teacher.

Should any of your contact details (especially mobile number and email address) change, please inform us via email at admin@artspreschool.co.za.

Thank you for your enthusiasm, cooperation and support. Feel free to contact us should you have any questions.

Wishing all a great month as we're gearing up for the last few school weeks of 2017.

Kind regards
Elbe Webber (principal) & Team
