Smothering Smog
On Tuesday, Delhi residents woke up to a blanket of thick grey smog, prompting a public health emergency. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also called for school closures for the next few days. Reports state that pollution levels in some areas had reached 30 times the World Health Organization's recommended limit. The smog surge is being blamed on slow winds and colder temperatures and officials have been urging residents to remain indoors.

Australia
Rare Map Display
Australia's National Library for the first time will be displaying a rare 17th Century map of Australia, one of just two left. The map created in 1659 by renowned Dutch cartographer Joan Blaeu for Dutch East India Company and which predates British settlement on the continent. The map was thought to have been lost forever until it was found in 2010 in storage in Sweden. According to the library, the map is based on a sighting of Tasmania by Abel Tasman's crew aboard the Zeehaen in 1642.
