We are so grateful to everyone who made our 2017 Annual Social a success! The Spanish bites by Canela and custom cocktail dreamed up by our hosts at Blackbird were not-to-be-missed. Our sponsors were our foundation and the fun prizes from local merchants inspired even more donations!
$18,615 was raised at the event!
The majority will go to
Castro Cares.

The types of interactions our Patrol Special Police have in the Castro/Upper Market
Lessons From 2017
Castro Cares is a unique, community effort that builds on the city’s baseline services. Castro Cares is about taking collective action to improve our community.
The program supports homeless outreach teams to connect people living on the streets and at risk with the city’s social service system. We increase law enforcement by advocating for SFPD foot patrols and by funding Patrol Special Police shifts.
Each month, we typically engage with 50-100 people who are homeless
Of the people we engage with, 2 out of 3 accept our help
We will continue to put pressure on the City to live up to its responsibilities while also taking action to improve the quality of life for everyone in our neighborhood.
New Position: Social Worker
Thanks to your generosity at the Annual Social, we now have short-term funding to experiment with contracting for a part-time social worker. We are providing people who are homeless with many referrals, and we want to support them with their follow-through on those referrals. By having someone available to navigate the City's resources, we hope to make ending homelessness easier, faster, cheaper, and above all, more caring.
We need to pay for transportation to appointments, emergency supplies like socks and personal care items, and the occasional meal or cup of coffee. Most importantly: we would love to add more hours for this new position.
We will continue to work closely with our Supervisor Jeff Sheehyand Mission Police Station to ensure we have our share of beat patrols and foot officers. On a recent morning, Supervisor Sheehy coordinated top brass to walk the Castro and talk with residents and merchants about their concerns and possible solutions.
Patrol Special
We also fund Patrol Special Police Officers to patrol the neighborhood. Patrol Special Police are an important piece of the community policing puzzle in the Castro & Upper Market.
