Nevada's Largest Western White Pine

The largest Western White Pine in Nevada is right here in Tahoe. It's exciting to see the discovery of champion pines in California and Nevada. If you like to follow big tree hunters then check out the Champion Tree National Register through the American Forests site.

Cone Collecting

It's cones collecting season again otherwise known as fun with the giant sling shot or pretend you are a squirrel. The seed is ripening a little early this season and the cone crop is plentiful. We expect to collect a lot of sugar pine and western white pine seed to replenish our seed bank. We will also be collecting some seed from Western White candidate trees to identify new rust resistant ones.

Big Cones

This has been a great year for collecting giant sugar pine cones. Go on a search for your own cones and or buy some from us! These big beauties make wonderful decorations and gifts. All proceeds go towards sugar pine planting and environmental education.
