Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!
September 1, 2017

Dear Perpich Students, Faculty, Parents and Guardians:

Congratulations on the completion of your first week of the school year! We are excited to have you as a part of the Perpich community.  We are also very proud to announce that we have had an extraordinarily strong kick-off to the residential and academic school year.  The students have been sharing enthusiasm for their coursework and the caliber of their peers and faculty at the Perpich Arts High School. We are all stronger as one and look forward to accomplishing great things together this year.

As we embark on this journey I would be remiss not to articulate how much we value each and every member of our community and how seriously we consider safety, security, and sense of belonging as crucial to our mission.  At Perpich we take great pride in our sense of community. In light of recent national events we feels it’s important to reiterate that Perpich has no place for hate, prejudice, or violence against any race, ethnicity, creed, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We have started the school year with a strong reinforcement of our school policies to ensure this year is a positive experience for all, and that we’re equipped to address issues as a community when they arise.

A few notes about our upcoming school year:

Student Handbook and Policies
Students all received the student handbook on Monday, August 28th. Please find our 2017-2018 handbook here. All school policies not included in the handbook can be found here.  The policies have been updated since last year, so please take the time to review thoroughly. A signed confirmation sheet indicating student and parent review of the handbook is DUE Wednesday, Sept. 6th. The form can be found on the last page of the handbook.

Staffing
As Perpich makes adjustments to our structure to ensure we are delivering the best possible educational experience for our students we have responded to the challenges outlined in our legislative audit during the 16-17 school year. One of the challenges outlined was our per pupil spending. In response to this we have reallocated funds in the high school to ensure we are continuing to meet the needs of our diverse student body while responding to this finding.  In this process we have made changes to our staffing structure so that we can continue to provide rigorous and broad course offerings. In cooperation with our teacher's union we have crafted a model with modified teacher schedules to keep our team and course offerings available to all students. Students have been notified of modified office hours and availability for teachers. If you have questions with regards to teacher availability please reach out to me directly.

We are very happy to announce that through this process we’ve been able to maintain all course offerings for students and have developed some new collaborations across departments!

Attendance
Attendance is absolutely essential to the Perpich experience! Please review the attendance policy in detail. Students are allowed no more than 3 unexcused absences in a class or twelve total absences (excused + unexcused). Please plan accordingly.

Parking Passes
A reminder to all students that you are expected to park in the student parking lots. Student parking passes will be enforced starting September 15th. See Karla at the front desk to purchase a pass. Students without a parking pass will be ticketed.

Global Studies @ Perpich
Perpich is going to Cuba! Over spring break Perpich will be providing the opportunity for students to travel to Cuba with our world language instructors, Trina Keller and Elaine Drivas. Please click here for more details. There will be an info meeting at Parent Open House on Sept. 22nd.

Thank you for being a partner as we work to provide the absolutely best educational and artistic experience for students.  Please save the date for our Parent Open House on Sept. 22nd from 12p.m.-4p.m. to learn more about Perpich.

We look forward to having a great year together! Please reach out if you have any questions. I am available to be reached at ahava.jones@pcae.k12.mn.us or 763.279.4262

My Best,

We are thrilled to welcome a new Executive Director to the Perpich agency, Dr. Curt Tryggestad. Dr. Tryggestad is the former superintendent of Eden Prairie Schools and started at Perpich on August 21st. Learn more about Dr. Tryggestad here!
