The Fullerton College Ethnic Studies Department is excited to return to the fall semester with Vol. II Issue I of our newsletter. In this edition, you will find information about open Ethnic Studies courses, an update about our Chicana/o Studies classes, announcements about upcoming events, and information on a cultural immersion trip to Peru. The fall 2017 newsletter is a two part Issue, with part II to follow, featuring information about our annual Ethnic Studies Summit. Welcome back Hornets!

Open Fall Classes

This course is a survey of the Chicana/o experience from the Mesoamerican era to the Mexican American War. This course fulfills the Multicultural Education requirement for graduation.
This course focuses on the contemporary issues, major characteristics & significant contributions of Chicana/o & Latina/o communities in the US. This course fulfills the Multicultural Education requirement for graduation.
This course focuses on the experiences of various Asian and Pacific Islander groups, utilizing the lens of race, class, gender and sexuality; connecting historical issues with contemporary phenomena.
This course is a survey of the African-American experience in the United States from the Era of Reconstruction to the present.

Changes to Chicana/o Studies Classes Effective Fall 2017

All Chicana/o Studies courses have been renumbered and renamed to match the Ethnic Studies courses at Cypress College. ETHS 140 is now ETHS 150 Introduction to Chicana/o Studies; ETHS 141 has been split into two courses: ETHS 151 Chicana/o History I and ETHS 152 Chicana/o History II. Part I covers Mesoamerica to the Mexican American War and Part II covers the Mexican American War to the present. The history courses do not have to be taken consecutively. ETHS 142 is now ETHS 153 Chicana/o & Latina/o Contemporary Issues. All Fullerton College Chicana/o Studies courses are transferable, and they now fulfill the Multicultural Education requirement for graduation, including ETHS 152, which now fulfills the CSU Graduation Requirement for US History, Constitution & American Ideals.

Faculty, please consider offering these events to your students for extra credit. They provide great hands-on cultural and educational learning experiences for everyone!
