Updates from Togo

Scholar Update!

Pathways Togo is proud to support 66 young girls in their studies from middle school through university across Togo. As we enter our 7th year, we are especially proud to say that we now have 16 scholars in university. As is the case in the United States and around the world, computer literacy is vital to higher education in Togo as well. For three years now, Pathways Togo has been committed to providing our university students with their own laptops for use in university and beyond. We have found that rather than loaning laptops to scholars, giving them the laptops fosters a sense of ownership and pride. The scholars not only care for the laptops better, but actively work to become more computer literate with their laptops. This year, we will have nine additional university scholars and so we are in need of $2700 ($300 each) for nine new laptops. Board Member Visits Togo
Board treasurer Nadia McInnis returned to Togo to visit our team there. She had a great visit, and was lucky enough to attend the 2017 Life Skills Conference in Pagala. To learn more about Nadia's trip and see some photos, please visit our BLOG
Are You a Federal Government Employee?
Pathways Togo is excited to announce that we will be participating in this year’s Combined Federal Campaign! All of our friends working for the federal government will be able to contribute directly to Pathways Togo via a paycheck deduction! The campaign runs from now until  December 15.
Our ID # is 67392. (PS Let us know if you’d like to help out by hosting an event at your office!)
Pathways Togo extends a heartfelt and deeply appreciative thanks to the New Trier High School Class of 1987 for their donations in memory of their classmate, Karren Waid. Click HERE to learn more about the Karren Waid Dream Award.

Welcome To Ablavi!

Ablavi GOKOU first joined the Pathways Togo team as an intern. We are so pleased to have her on board now as the Middle and High School Program Coordinator
Born in Togo, Ablavi left her native country in 1996 with her family due to her father’s position as an International staff member for the UNDP/WFP. She pursued her education in six different countries (Benin, Guinea/Conakry, Kenya, France-- where she obtained a Master’s Degree in International and European Law, and Canada-- where she obtained a Graduate Diploma in Management). Through all her adventures, she always tries to combine her love for travels with her dedication to International Aid and Human Rights issues. She volunteered and worked within various NGOs protecting Children’s Rights throughout Africa (Egypt, Burkina Faso), Europe (Belgium, France) and Canada. Recently back to Togo, her main objective while joining Pathways Togo is to ensure that our local girls understand that there are many more options/alternatives opened to them other than just being someone’s wife or mother. In her spare time, she LOVES reading thrillers/ crime fiction novels and was probably a detective in some past life.

John's Match
Board member Stephanie Palmer (RPCV Togo '01-'04) and her mother, Kathryn Palmer, would like to honor the life of John Palmer, beloved father and husband, through a matching donation campaign for Pathways Togo. John died on March 1, 2017 and was Stephanie's biggest supporter when she decided she wanted to join the Peace Corps. He loved hearing stories about village life in Togo because there were so many similarities to his life growing up on a small farm in Minnesota. Stephanie and Kathryn are willing to match any donation that comes into Pathways Togo as part of this match, up to $2500 that is noted as being for "John's match."
The match will open on October 1 and run until October 31st. Donations towards the match can be made HERE
Many thanks to the Palmer family for their generosity.
